A new gameplay trailer for has confirme🧜d that the game will launch 🐠in Early 2024 and be the first PS5 game to require two disks.
As we all suspected from Square Enix's not-so-subtle teases on Twitter, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth showed up at tonight's showcase, closing out the event with a new gameplay trailer. We saw lots of new gameplay footage that confirmed an open world, Red XIII as a playable party member, and more, but the biggest bit of news was that the game is going to require two disks.
As the trailer closed, a message popped up that read "Early 2024, on 2 disks", making Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth the first game on the PS5 with that requirement. This seems to suggest that the game is going to be substantially larger than anything we've seen on the console so far, which is remarkable considering how relatively early we are into the console's lifecycle. Even Final Fantasy 16 doesn't need that much!
Outside of the two disk reveal, the gameplay reveal also showcased that Rebirth will feature a massive open world to explore, with chocobos used as a way of letting the party get around faster. We also saw that Red XIII will be playable this time around, as he was only a guest party member in Remake. Yuffie also makes a brief appearance during one of the trailer's cutscenes, which seems to indicate that she's going to be featured in the party too, which makes sense considering she was playable in the Intergrade DLC.
Although it was great to see Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth after nearly a year of silence from Square Enix, we can't pretend that it was much of a surprise. Last week, the official Final Fantasy Twitter🤪 account confirmed that development o𝄹n the game was progressing smoothly and that a release date was still being nailed down. The next update, posted a day later, basically confirmed that the game would feature an overworl🐠d, something that fans have been wondering abou𓆉t ever since🦂 Remake first released.
The rest of the updates since then haven't given us much to go on beyond confirming that there will be new party members, . Considering this was the seventh update and it just so happened to land on the day of Summer Game Fest, it seemed to be a big hint that we could expect Rebirth to show up at the event, which it thankfully did.
