Bottomswell has been renamed to Terror of the Deep, and while there is a ༒certain charm to the original translation, this new one seems all the more fitting. Armed with our guide, however, you should have little issue destroying this beast.

Terror Of The Deep Boss Fight Overview

Terror of the Deep boss fight in FF7 Rebirth

Terror of the Deep has several special attacks which it will use just as frequently as its normal lashes and slashes. One of these is called Tail Lash (go figure), which lets the boss slash with its tail in a quick beat that hits a target to its side.

This is swift enough that it will be difficult to evade if you are standing to its side when this happens. It might actually be best for you to stand in front of the boss whenever it's emerged from water - we𝔉 mention this because it's a somewhat rဣare approach to powerful foes!

A more considerable threat, however, lies in the bubbles that Terror of the Deep will deploy across the battlefield. These bubbles, upon contact, will trap a party member within them until they are broken free by another character.

The action of breaking them free means that you will be paying closer attention to the bubble than the boss, which can compound your issues when and if the boss uses Spiral Surge, an attack that will send it across the arena rapidly, and is challenging to🃏 avoid even in better sꦅituations.

But none of this comes close to the issues you may encounter once Terror of the Deep reaches half its HP. At this point, a tornado will erupt around the center of the field, and it will swirl in various di꧑re𒉰ctions for much of the remainder of the fight.

As if that weren't enough, Terror of the Deep will now be able to pick up a character and then throw them for severe damage.

Thankfully, Terror of the Deep does have something of an Achilles' heel; namely, lightning. Thunder will deal high damage to it. Thundara, should you have it in your arsenal at this point, will do nearly twice as much damage.

And, if you have save data from Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade, you will also have access to Ramuh, the li🌃ghtning-elem🎐ental summoned entity whose presence, like all summons, will last for a couple of minutes.

Terror Of The Deep Strategy

Terror of the Deep boss fight in FFVII Rebirth

A large part of this boss fight is going to involve you ensuring that the character you are presently controlling is out of harm's reach from bubbles and the Water Jet that Terror of the Deep shoots across at linear arcs.

Thus, blocking attacks takes a second precedent to simply evading them altogether. There is only so much that blocking will achieve beyond Terror of the Deep's normal physical attacks, 🔥after all.

Having Barret in your active party means having someone whose attacks can be launched from afar - which is to say, from a relatively safe distance - at all times. Barret is also far more capable of landing hits on the beast whenever it is otherwise out of the rea❀ch of Cloud, Tifa, and Red.

Aerith can attack from afar with her basic strikes as well, though it may go without saying, but you will be better served having Aerith attack magically, especially with Thunder.

It's a good idea to give a Lightning orb to Barret, as well, so that you are able to lay on the pressure (figuratively and literally) twice as quickly. Barret's ATB should be charging fast, since you'll be able to fire off so many bullets!

Terror of the Deep is resistant to fire, and highly resistant to ice. It won't be the end of the world if you accidentally attack with these elements, as it's not like it will absorb them, but time is of the essence in this fight, and you don't want to spend precious ATB gauges doing little damage.

For non-elemental attacking, rely on Cloud's Triple Slash and Braver, which can both reach Terror of the Deep so long as it is not underwater. Tifa, if she is in your party, can deploy many of her own special attacks; she is, after all, quite proficient in aerial combat.
