Nibelheim takes place in a time before he is changed by trauma and having so many things taken away from him. Here there is only optimism and the opportunity to chase his dreams. So, of course, he is excited to be on such a mission.

With its open world and events of the past game a part of its overall identity, Rebirth should have more opportunities to tell diverse stories with new and existing characters. Time will tell if it gets explicit with its queerness instead of vague allusions to such things, but I have hope after Final Fantasy 16 broke new ground and Remake was unafraid to strut its stuff without fear. Saucy interactions between Cloud and Sephiroth asidꦛe, I’m chuffed that Remake and Rebirth manage to represent the person I am so effectively, and can&rsꦏquo;t wait to see how much further it goes in creating a queer, inclusive world that embraces melodrama and intimacy in equal measure.
