All good things come to an end. It's a quote that Professor Hojo seems to know well - the scientist summons forth his mighty Grasptropod at the climax of 's otherwise-sunshine-and-rainbows sixth ch🦄apter. The fight starts off slowly enough, but escalates into soemthing that can quickly get out of hand.

Grasptropod Boss Overview

Grasptropod uses Pulse Blaster in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

The sequence leading to the battle with Grasptropod includes a handful of prior battles against (far) weaker enemies. We note this because you will need to choose a duo to accompany Cloud - either Aerith and Barret or Tifa and Red XIII.

This duo will stick with Cloud for the fight against Grasptropod. So there are two "modes" to party composition. We went with Aerith and Barret, so our guide will reflect that!

Grasptropod is weak to Lightning, and hopefully, you've got Thundara by now. That one packs a punch. Equip Lightning orbs to both Aerith and Cloud, and make sure that Barret has his Folio ability for the element.

Subliminated Toxin and Silencing Solvent poison and silence targets, respectively, and they both affect the surrounding radius. Keep your distance whenever𒆙 you see them, though truth be told, they're pretty easy to rectify.

Grasptropod has multiple physical special attacks, each of which can be easily evaded, and all but one are close-range. Drill Run sends Grasptropod spinning forward instead.

The biggest threat that Grasptropod presents is Subject Retrieval. It is, by our estimation, at least, unavoidable; it will yank one of the two party members, and then eventually, it'll yank the other. You're eventually stuck with Cloud alone, if our experience is anything to go by.

Grasptropod Boss Strategy

For all the fear that Grasptropod can instill with Subject Retrieval, there's excellent news: the boss is relatively simple to stagger. Unleash enough attacks, deal enough damage, and bam, it will get staggered.

But better still, after using its Breakneck Spin attack, Grasptropod stops moving for a while. This is the prime time to unleash attacks like Cloud's Focused Thrust, more Thundara, Barret's Overcharge, or Tifa's Focused Strike.

So long as you keep your health up, Grasptropod's defeat is practically foretold; look for those openings via Breakneck Spin, and don't be discouraged when Cloud's the only character left in your party.

Towa🌺rd the end, Yuffiꦫe saves the day. Or rather, Yuffie and a surprising sidekick. Suite of sidekicks. You'll see!
