Favorite bosses, favorite characters and, of course, favorite couples.

From the classic love stories that are overrated to the lesser-appreciated couples and even some that aren’t romantic relationships at all, here are some of our picks for the best (and worst) couples in Final Fantasy history.

10 𒀰 Ev🌟eryone Loves: Zidane And Garnet (Final Fantasy IX)

In so many ways, Final Fantasy IX was intended as an homage to the classic entries in the series. This PS1 Final Fantasy swanson𝓡g featured a Medieval-inspiredꦇ setting, the job system of old (though with pre-assigned roles for each party member) and an unlikely-but-adorable love story.

Zidane and Garnet spend most of the game’s events together, and we get to see their relationship blossom in a way that we sometimes don’t with Final Fantasy couples. Garnet is initially dismissive of this rogue, but 🅘by the end of the game, even the curmudgeonly Steiner seemed to have accepted that Zidane is the man for her.

9 Just Annoying: Zorn And Thorn (👍Final Fantasy IX)

While we’re on the subject of Final Fantasy IX’s couples, we just have to give a shout-out to this d♛astardly duo: the A🍸lexandrian court jesters, Zorn and Thorn.

These supposed twins are an absolute pain in the cheeks throughout much of the game. At Queen Brahne’s behest, they 🎐send the Black Waltzes (advanced black mages) after𓂃 Garnet and the party, in an attempt to bring the princess and her friends to ‘justice.’

Later, they extract Eidolons from both 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Garnet and Eiko, and also appear together as a boss battle on a couple of occasions (finally displaying their true forms as two halves of a hideous hybrid monster known as Me𝓰ltigemini). This devious double-act is a constant thorn (and Zorn) in the player’s side.

8 Everyone Loves: Tidus An๊d Yuna (Final Fantasy X)

The franchise’s first appearance on the PlayStation 2 heralded a whole new era for Final Fantasy. An era of voice-acting, for oꦆne thing, ဣwhich was enough of a revelation in and of itself back in 2001.

Final Fantasy X, of course, also brought us another legendary cast of characters, who 𓄧suffered greatly together and forged strong relationships as a result. For some, Lulu and Wakka are the big couple of the game, but it’s Tidus and Yuna’s relationship that is the most iconic by a country mile. The tentative, inexperienced pair shared a tender and super sweet love story that only the stoniest of hearts wouldn’t be touched by.

7 🐈 Just Annoying: Squall And Rinoa (Final Fantasy VIII)

Now, we fully understand that this one’s going to be a little controversial with some fans. All of these entries are, of course, but Final Fantasy VIII has proven even more divisive than most other 🐬entri🐠es in the series in the years since its release.

Did we get to watch as the taciturn and intr𒐪overted Squall opened himself up and gradually revealed the true extent of his feelings for Rinoa? Was it 📖all a little tacked-on and rushed? That entirely depends on who you ask. For us, though, the story needed a little more time for the telling.

6 Everyone Loves: Balthier And Fran (Final Fantasy XII) ♈

Here’s a relationship that Final Fantasy XII certainly got a lot of mileage out of debating. Platonic or romantic? In some installments in the series, it’s a cut-and-dried matter of 𒁏a romantic relationship (such as th💯at between Aerith and Zack, as is made abundantly clear), but in other cases, it’s perhaps left up to interpretation.

What was the deal with Fran and Balthier, then? Were they just partners on the Strahl, in a Chewbacca and Han Solo sense, or was there more to their partnership than that? Throughout the game, the depths of the♋ir feelings for each other are emphasized many times. Ultimately, they’re one of the closest duos in franchise history regardless.

5 𒊎Just Annoying: Serah And Snow (Final Fantasy XIII Series) 🔯

There’s no such ambiguity here🐻. Snow and Serah (Lightning’s younger sibling) are engaged to be married throughout the game’s events, so it’s safe to say that we’re looking at a romantic relationship here.

The frustrating part about it all is, we don’t know what happened with this couple. They weren’t married in Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns, or in any other offi🅠cial material from the series. They just weren’t as dev✤eloped as some other couples, to that extent that this huge loose end was left unchecked.

4 🌟 Everyone Loves: Aerith And Zack (Final Fantasy VII Series)

Ah, yes. If you’re looking for the ultimate tragic Final Fantasy love story, the sad tale of Aerith and Zack probably takes the cake. While Final Fantasy VII itself only provides snippets of what happened, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII not only shows us in vivid deꦿtail but makes us play through Zack’s heroic lasꦿt stand.

These coy youngsters were new to relationshi🃏ps when they fell in love, and it was Zack’s devotion to Aerith that ultimately saw him in Shinra’s 🃏grasp. He fought alone against an oncoming army to protect the ailing Cloud, finally being taken down as the long fight overwhelmed him. He would never know of Aerith’s equally tragic fate.

3 ꦛ 💧 Just Annoying: Cloud And Tifa (Final Fantasy VII)

Speaking of relationships that Final Fantasy VII itself just doesn’t quite elaborate on, how about Tifa🍨 and Cloud? As we see over the course of the game, the pair have been super close friends since childhood (well, they grew up in the same town and became friends later). Their bond is so strong that Tifa is able to retrieve Cloud’s true memories after their harrowing journey in the Lifestream.

On what they believe to be one of the planet’s last days, they share a loving moment beneath the Highwind, but are they truly a couple? We see in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and official Square-Enix novellas that they continued to be close, though have a strained relationship (owing to the guilt Cloud fee𝐆ls and other factors). Nothing is stated outright, though, which is super frustrating.

2 ✃ Everyone Loves: Celes And Locke (Final Fantasy VI)

All too often, it’s the star of the show whose relationship takes top billing in a Final Fantasy game. Before Cloud and Tifa, Squall and𝕴 Rinoa and Zidane and Garnet, though, Celes and Locke were engaging in a happy relationship that had precisely zero to do with the game’s protagonist, Terra.

Locke and Celes are clearly devoted to each other, the moment that Locke saves the general from being executed by the empire emphasizing the classic ‘two members of opposing sides finding love’ idea that’s at the heart of the relationship. They are true equals, both formidable warriors, and while they have hiccups in their relationship, that ends a sense of reality ൩to it.

1 Just A𝄹nnoying: Biggs And Wedge (Final Fantasy VIII)

Now, don’t get us🔯 wrong here. We can appreciate the recurring characters Biggs and Wedge, we really can. Just like the infamous Cid, characters by this name appear throughout the series, even if they are completely different people each time.

The duo we meet in Final Fantasy VIII, however, are almost as obnoxious as Zorn and Thorn of Final Fantasy IX. They first oppose the heroes from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Balamb Garden on their inaugural SeeD mission (atop the communications tower in Dollet), before setting X-ATMO92 on them in a memorable and super tense chase sequღence. After that, they make a couple more bumbling appearances, serving as nothing more than silly distractions. A couple in the romantic sense? Perhaps not.𒁃 A couple of pains? Absolutely.
