For all the franchise's adorable mascots and convoluted plots, magical Crystals remain central to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy. Their role and overall importance vary from game to game, but they're always present, "shedding their light𓃲 silently." In many of the early Final Fantasy titles, the Crystals were the most important thing in the universe, capable of savin⭕g or destroying the world with help from the heroes.
Square Enix has even made the Crystals a part of the brand's marketing, hyping the main series and a few spinoff titles as part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis continuity - the New Tale Of The Crystal. Let's see how 🧜the tale of the Crystals has e꧟volved - new or otherwise.
This article contains spoilers for the Final Fant🦄asy series
Final Fantasy
In the original Final Fantasy title, the Crystals were spheres small enough to be carried in one hand - the English translation referred to them as Orbs. At the start of the game, the Crystal𓄧s had lost their power to the Four Fiends, c✤ausing the world to slowly rot away as its elemental forces were out of alignment.
The protagonists of the game - the four Light Warriors - each bore one of the Crystal Orbs and were tasked with defeating the Fiends to restore the Crystals' power. On the course of their journey, they discovered that the Fiends were simply aspects of a greꦰater evil, t𒁃he god Chaos. Defeating Chaos ended the threat to the world forever.
Final Fantasy 2
The Crystals play a small but vital role in Firion's quest to defeat the Palamecian Empire. Once again four in number, the Crystals are held at the top of the Mysidian Tower. Firion's companion Minwu sacrifices his life to open the way to the Crystal Chamber, allowing the remaining party members to enter.
Interacting with the Crystals will permanently boost the party's stats, but the realಌ prize - and the reason the rebels came to the tower in the first💟 place - is the Tome Of Ultima. Equipped with the ultimate magic, Firion and his companions have a weapon capable of destroying Emperor Mateus.
Final Fantasy 3
The Crystals are much larger in their third incarnation, confined to shrines scattered throughout the world. There are eight Crystals this time - four in the heroes' home world and four in the Dark World. Xande, the game's villain, seeks to steal the power of the Light Crystals to empower the embodiment of Darkness.
The Warriors Of Light enꦉcounter one of the Crystals by accident in the game's opening sequence, and it⛄ grants them the power to defeat Xande. The Crystal's blessing allows the Warriors to adopt powerful personas and skills, changing their abilities as necessary to meet the needs of the situation. This was the first instance of Final Fantasy's now-famous Job System.
Final Fantasy 4
The series' first SNES title included eight Crystals yet again - four on the surface world and four in the subterranean realm. Cecil, The Dark Knight of Baron, is tasked with securing the Crystals for his king who intends to use them to rule the world. Cecil rebels and races to gather the Crystals before💜 his nemesis Golbez, the mastermind behind the throne, can acquire them.
The Crystals are artifacts of the Lunar Civiliz🌼ation, and the eight of them are used in conjunctꦐion to allow Cecil and his companions to reach the moon. There, they learn of an immortal wizard called Zemus who has been manipulating Golbez to prepare the way for his conquest of the Earth.
Final Fantasy 5
Much like their counterparts in the first and third FInal Fantasy games, the Crystals in Final Fantasy 5 govern the four classical elements. The city of Karnak, where the Fire Crystal resided, discovered a way to extract energy from the Crystals. Cid, the inventor of the process, learned too late that overuse would cause tꦡhe Crystals to🎐 shatter, upsetting the elemental balance of the world but was jailed when he attempted to shut the mechanism down.
As the Crystals shatter one by one, Bartz and his companions discover that the stones' power was 𝐆used thir꧒ty years prior to seal away the malevolent entity Exdeath. The broken pieces of the Crystal bestow Job powers on Bartz, Lenna, Galuf, and Faris to let them combat Exdeath.
Ga꧂luf, one of the heroes who sealed away Exdeath decades prior alongside Bartz's father, brings t🌳he party to his homeworld, a parallel universe with its own set of Crystals. The world of Final Fantasy 5 was split into two universes a thousand years prior, and by rejoining the two, the heroes can use the remaining Crystals to stabilize both worlds.
Final Fantasy 6
Magic left the world long ago in Final Fantasy 6, as the beings who governed it - the Espers - sealed the doorway🤪 between their world and that of humans. In the game's timeline, the Gestahl Empire is able to forcibly enter the Espers' world,🌱 capturing the mystical beings and extracting their power. Upon death, an Esper leaves behind a Magicite Crystal which bestows a human carrying it with a fraction of the deceased Esper's power.
When Terra - who is herself half-human and half-Esper - discovers the💜 source of human magic and its derivative technology, she and her companions are asked by the dying Esper elder Ramuh to gather as many Magicite Crystals as they can and use their power to stop the Empire.
Final Fantasy 7
Materia - marble-sized crystaline orbs that come in an array of vibrant colors - allow humans to wield magic and gain other exceptional powers in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 7. Materia is formed from crystallized Mako energy, which is also drawn from the p💫lanet by the Shinra Electric Power Company for their meg♍acity of Midgar.
As it turns out, Mako Energy is part of the Lifestream, the natural flow of energy to which all living things return upon death. Materia, therefore, contains tiny slivers of memory from those who have lived and died. Materia wielders gain the skills of t🅠heir forebears by absorbing that knowledge.
Sephiroth seeks the Black Materia, which contains the knowledge of a ritual that can cause a meteor to crash into the planet. Doi🃏ng so will cause the Lifestream to surge, allowing the parasitic alien Jenova (who Sephiroth considers his mother) to glut herself on Mako energy and resume her journey across the stars.
Cloud and company learn of a White Materia which canও counter Sephiroth's spell, and Aerith rushes ahead to claim it, setting up the climactic conclusion of the first half of the game.
Final Fantasy 8
Crystals are noticeably absent from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 8 until late in the game, when the Crystal Pillar is discovered. In the world of Final Fantasy 8, the monsters that roam the world are native to the moon and when conditions are correct a Lunar Cry causes a mass migration of the beasts to Earth. During the tyrannical reign of the Sorceress Adel, the Crystal Pillar was used to build Lunatic Pandora, a facility capable of triggering the Lunar Cry at will.
Laguna Loire defeated Adel, but the time-bending Sorceress Ultimecia sends Seifer to reactivate the Crystal Pillar in🌟 Squall's time. Ultimecia and Seifer use the Lunar Cry in an attempt to destroy Laguna's advanced nation of Esthar, removing the biggest threat to the Sorceress' schemes, but are ultimately thwarted by Squall and his team.
Final Fantasy 9
Every planet in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 9's universe has a Crystal at its core, which acts as the source of life on that world. Thes🅷e Crystals are in turn descended from a single, original Crystal which is briefly seen in the game. Like the Lifestream of Final Fantasy 7, the Crystal oversees the cycle of death and rebirth, and souls return to their world's Crystal before being reincarnated.
The denizens of the world called Terra attempted to gain eternal life by absorbing the Crystals of other planets into their own. When they came to Gaia, the setting of Final Fantasy 9, the process failed and the Terrans entered an extended period of hibernation to allow the absorption to complete naturally.
To hasten the process, the project's overseer Garland prevented Gaian souls from returning to their Crystal, causing them to linger on the surface as toxic Mi🦂st. The Mist was eventually used by Gaian natives - who knew nothing of the Terrans or their plan - as fuel for airshi🐎ps and to create artificial but short-lived Black Mages capable of casting destructive spells.
Final Fantasy 10
Crystals are an inherent part of Sphere technology in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 10. Half magic, half tech, Spheres contain pyreflies - the ꦛremnants of souls that have been sent to their eternal rest. Like Materia, the pyreflies allow a Sphere user to access the skills and knowledge of the deceased.
It's unclear how many of Spira's Sphere gadgets are actually magical. In additioꦰn to empowering Yuna and her Guardians, Spheres are also used for mundane tasks like video and sound recording.
