Final Fantasy VII received a number of prequels, sequels, and spin-offs over the years. These fleshed out the universe of the game and added to the lore of the setting, sometimes contra♍d♚icting information that appeared in the original game.

Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII was a Japan-exclusive mobile game that can no longer be purchased. Despite this, Final Fantasy VII Remake references it on multiple occasions, including bringing back an organization that many fans assumed had🌱 faded away. Avalanche was once a rag-tag group of eco-terrorists, but they are now part of something bigger.

In Final Fantasy VII, Avalanche is the name o✱f Barret's eco-terrorist group that opposes the Shinra Electric Power Company. Most of its members are killed during the att൩ack on the Sector 7 Pillar, but Barret reforms the team with members of the party. There is no indication that there are other members of AVALANCHE outside of the ones seen in the game.

In Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, it's revealed that there was an 🐽earlier incarnation of Avalanche that was far-better equipped than Barret's version of the team. The original version of Avalanche had military-grade technology, highly-trained soldiers, and high-ranking personnel who could match characters like Hojo a🐻nd Sephiroth in intelligence and strength. Avalanche is being supported from the shadows by Wutai.

Avalanche's plan involved summoning a creature called Zirconiade, with the intention of using its power to wipe out all human life in order to save the planet. Avalanche's plans are foiled by the Turks and they are seemingly wiped out. The non-canon story Hoshi o Meguru Otome established that Jessie learned🔴 how to make bombs due to files left behind by the origin🍷al Avalanche.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

One of the biggest surprises in Final Fantasy VII Remake is that the original version of Avalanche is still around and 💞has retained some of its military might. Barret's group is considered to be too extreme and they aren't directly involved with Avalanche's plans, though they are still considered to be a cell that belongs to the organization. President Shinra tries to tie Avalanche's crimes to Wutai as part ℱof a larger plot.

Avalanche bail out Biggs, Cloud, Jessie, and Wedge when they attempt to steal gear from a Shinra base. Wedge later asks for their help in escaping from the Shinra Headquarters and Avalanche dispatc🔯hes a helicopter to extract them from the roof. This helicopter is shot down when Rufus Shinra appears on the scene. It's unclear if Avalanche will have a role ℱin future entries in the series.
