Wakka is one of those characters that you either like from the outset of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 10 or grow to like over the course of the story because of his immense growth. He’s not your typical mentor party member. Wakka has his convictions, and he sticks to his guns. He looks out for the younger guardians in the party and often brings an air of levity during some of the game's somber moments.
That said, he is not without his flaws. He has some radical opinions on culture and religion, and through 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Yuna's pilgrimage, he learns theꦏ truth about his deep-rooted beliefs. With a character as multi-faceted as this, here are some things you may not have known about the blitzball-loving guardian — and vital party member for those pesky aerial enemies.
10 🐼 Growing Up: Finding Joy in Bliﷺtzball
Wakka was born on Besaid Island 23 years before Final Fantasy 1ꦉ0’s events. His parents were killed by Sin when he was young—so young that his brother Chappu was merely an infant.
Orphaned, Wakka and Chappu were raised by Besaid Island’s surviving residents. He started played blitzball at the age of five, joining the Besaid Aurochs at 13. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Blitzball served as a distraction from the constant pain aඣnd sorrow Sin b﷽rought to Spira. When Wakka played blitzball, his presence was with the game, not consumed by fear.
9 Chappu: Wakka’s Only Living Family Memb🏅er
Chappu initially followed in Wakka's footsteps becoming a blitzball player, although he would walk a different path a year before the events of Final Fantasy 10. Chappu retired from blitzball and joined the Crusaders, a Sin combat league overseen by one of Yevon’s maesters.
During the Djose Shore Defense Operation, Chappu fought Sin; like so many ꧋others, he seemingly lost his life in vain.ꦚ He was survived by his girlfriend, Lulu, who he planned to propose to upon his return to Besaid.
8 Father Zuke: Yuna’s Pilgrimage is Not Wakka’s First Rodeoꦫ
After the passing of Chappu, Wakkꦐa opted to retire from blitzbal༒l and committed to being a guardian, fueled by the desire to avenge his brother. According to Yevon’s teachings, which Wakka strictly abides by, a summoner and the final aeon are the only way to defeat Sin.
Six months before the events of Final Fantasy 10 — and after a blitzball tournament—both Wakka and Lulu join Father Zuke on his pilgrimage. However, Zuke abandoned his pilgrimage in the Calm Lands, with ༒Lulu and Wakka returning home to Besaid. Wakka partially blamed himself for the failure, admitting that his mind still was preoccupied with blitzball.
7 Wakka’s Retirement: The Micha🎀el Jordan of Blitzbℱall
Upon returning to Besaid Island, Wakka rejoined the Aurochs in hopes of calming his desire for blitzball once and for all. His goal was to retire after the next tournament, in time to focus on Yuna's planned pilgrimage. After Yuna's father died during his pilgrimage, she too was orphaned on Besaid, with Wakka and Lulu taking her under their wing. So this journey was much more personal for Wakka - he couldn't fail this time.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:With the help of Tidus, the Aurochs finally break their ten-yea﷽r losing streak, and Wakka retires with one win under his belt. Perhaps that one win is what inspired him to come back as a free agent for...one gil per game. Furthering his faux retirement, Wakka is once again part of the Besaid Aurochs blitzball team in Final Fantasy 10-2, returning with his special shot: th🤪e overhead volley.
6 Wakka’s Relationship With Lul꧋u: From Fu﷽ture Brother-in-Law to Husband
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Lulu and Wakka were often at odds during the events of Final Fantasy 10. While Lulu seemingly came to terms with Chappu’s untimely death, Wakka outwardly struggled, and Lulu does not hold back🍰 when criticizing him.
Especially early on in the game, Lulu frequently points out Wakka’s flaws (even having special dialogue if Wakka falls in battle) and will put him in his place for goofing around or having visions of grandeur. While we don&rsquo🍒;t know the exact details, sometime between Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2 Wakka and “Lu” 🐲marry, and she becomes pregnant with his child.
5 The Unsent: Wakka's Denial
Jyscal Guado, an unsent former maester of Yevon and leader of Guadosalam, appears before Yuna near the Farplane, giving her a sphere that reveals the truth behind his death: he was murdered by his own son Seymour Guado. He further reveals Seymour's dark ambitions, which include becoming Sin itself with Yuna's help.
When confronted by this truth, Seymour attacks the party. Wakka is clearly shocked by the revelation and has unique dialogue with Seymour pleading with him to stop the fight. Seymour ignores his request, much to Wakka's chagrin. Wakka even goes so far as to blame Rikku for the turn of events with the Guados.
4 Machina: Against Yevon's Teachings
Wakka’s hatred for machina and the Al Bhed is the antithesis of his devotion to Yevon’s teaching. At first, it 🍌seems like he irrationally discriminates against them and their use of machina, but it’s revealed that his disdain is rooted in something closer to his heart.
While we know Chappu was killed during Crusader operation, Wakka reveals that he died using a mac𒅌hina weapon, ditching the sword, Brotherhood, that Wakka gave Chappu before his departure. Over the cours💦e of the pilgrimage, his relationship with Rikku breaks down his distrust of the Al Bhed, with Yuna’s revealed Al Bhed lineage further breaking down his distrust.
3 Wakka's Religious Upbringing: Praise be to Yevon
Wakka depended on Yevon's religion and guidance throughout his formative years, making him socially conservative as an adult. Because of his religious devotion, Wakka is resistant to participate in anything considered forbidden by its teachings. On the way to Macalania, for example, Wakka refuses to ride on the machina-powered snowmobiles.
His faith is shaken when it’s revealed that Yevon utilizes the same machina they condemn in their teachings. Eventually, traveling Spira with Yuna's party broadens Wakka's worldview, and he begins to see the hypocrisy behind his previous actions; he apologizes to Cid and the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Al Bhed for his ignorance.
2 Brotherhood: Wakka’s Gift to Tidus 🍃✤
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Wakka gifts Tidus the iconic s🦂word, Brotherhood, early on in the stor🎃y. But this sword wasn’t simply laying around. 𒈔Wakka previously gifted Brotherhood to his brother Chappu, a weapon discarded in favor of an Al Bhed machina weapon.
Of course, it’s revealed that Wakka feels Tidus reminds him of Chappu, and they develop a f🌱amiliar bond over the course of their journey. Also of note, in the Japanese version of Final Fantasy 10, Brotherhood is called Fraternity: “the state of friendship and mutual support within a group.”
1 Wakka’s Legendary Weapon: Ohalland’s L🍷egacy
To gain World Champion, Wakka's legendary weapon, you have to win either five blitzball games or place third in a tournament. Afterward, talk to the bartender in the Luca Café with the Celestial Mirror in your inventory.
How did this seemingly random bartender acquire such a weapon? Ohalland, one of few successful summoners to vanquish Sin and bring the Calm, wielded the World Champion on his pilgrimage over 200 years ago. Before becoming a summoner, Ohalland played blitzball for the Kilika Beasts, and he left the weapon with the bartender’s ancestors. Call it fate that Spira's last summoner's guardian would inherit this keepsake.
