Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura has revealed the synopsis for Final Fantasy X-3 has already been written, and the game might still see the light of day in the distant future.

Final Fantasy is a tricky series to keep track of. While its main series of games are numbered titles, there have been spinoffs, remakes, and branc🙈hes unrelated to any of those titles. Final Fantasy 10, for example. While it is the tenth game in the main series, it resulted in the follow-on game Final Fantasy X-2 while the main series moved on to a new story via Final Fantasy 11.

If you assumed Square Enix was going to leave it at two games in that spinoff franchise, then you may have assumed wrong. , Square's Tetsuya Nomura revealed some potentially exciting news about the Final Fantasy X games, admitting that the story told across X and X-2 isn't necessarily over.

“It's sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist,” Nomura revealed. Apparently, Final Fantasy X-3's synopsis has been written, it's just a case of turning that story into a game. The writer of Final Fantasy 10 Kazushige Nojima added that they had the chance to work with people who got into the industry after playing Final Fantasy 7. Now they plan on working with people who did the same thing after playing Final Fantasy 10.

If Final Fantasy X-3 does come to fruition in the future, fans of the first two games already have somewhere to go to get a taste of where its story might go next. The HD remaster of the two games includes audio of a story titled Final Fantasy X Will. The story follows on from the events of𒅌 Final Fantasy X-2 and may well have been used as the fཧoundation for X-3.

The bad news is if Final Fantasy X-3 is ever going to happen, it's still a long way off. The original game's lead Motomu Toriyama has said while there is a chance the game gets made, the real work on it won't begin until Final Fantasy 7 Remake is complete. With Part 2 still to come, and probably a Part 3 after that, it could be the better part of a decade before work on Final Fantasy X-3 even begins.
