Like all other expansions in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV’s Heavensward introduces its fair share of trials and dungeons. Players will run through all trials and most of an expansion’s 🎀dungeons during the course of th𓆏e expansion’s main story scenario, but there are always a few dungeons per expansion that are optional to complete.
These optional dunge🧜ons and similar unlocks are helpfully indicated by a blue quest mark. However, figuring out which quests actually lead to useful unlocks as opposed to sightseeing or yet another levequest can be a pain.
As such, here’s our guide to finding and unlocking Heavensward’s optionaꦕl dungeons. Do note that most of these quests will require that players finis𒆙h the expansion's main story scenario before picking them up.
The Dusk Vigil
While this dungeon is technically optional, the Dusk Vigil’s unlock quest “For All the Nights to Come” awards an aether current for the Coerthan Western Highlands, an area that players will de𝓰finitely want to unlock flying for after the second or third time running from Falcon’s Nest to Gorgagne Mills.
Players can pick up “For All the Nights to Come” from Wealdtheow in The Convictory. The quest will direct you to speak wit☂h Nadinie, an Ishgardian knight posted at the Banepool toward the very top of the map. The Dusk Vigil is a level 51 dungeon that drops Ishgard🔯ian loot, so if you ever wanted to look imposingly fantasy Catholic, Dusk Vigil is the dungeon for you.
Saint Mocianne’s Arboretum
The Arboretum is a level 60 dungeon that can only be unlocked after completing the main story quest “Heavensward”. Return to The Dravanian Hinterlands and speak to the Tetchy Treasure Hunter to pick up “An Overgrown Ambition”. The treasure hunter can be found hanging out in the Answering Quarter, and tasks you with storming the Arboretum and acquiring the great tr𓃲easure within.
This being FFXIV, that treasure is naturally guarded by an army of murderous plants. The Arboretum awards loot from the Duelist/Thief/Plague set, which respectively correlates to tanks/dragoons, ninjas/monks/physical ranged DPS, and healers/casti💧ng classes.
Neverreap
This level 60 dungeon can only be unlocked after finishing Heavensward’s main story scenario. Return to𒅌 the Sea of Clouds and pick up “Reap What You Sow” from Sanu Vanu in Ok’ Zundu.
The quest to unlock Neverreap requires players to go to a floating island—Neve♌rreap itself—that’s unreachable by foot, so make sure you have flying unlocked to get there. Neverreap awards Valerian ar♎mor and Baldur weapons. It’s also possible to earn the Ugly Duckling minion and a Triple Triad card of the final boss, the Waukkeon.
The Fractal Continuum
Hey, Square Enix had to lure players back to Azys Lla somehow. The Fractal Continuum is a level 60 dungeon whose unlock quest ⛄can only be acquired after finishing “Heavensward”.
Pick up “Do It For Gilly” from Notrelchamps, an Garlond Ironworks employee standing by the Airship Landing aetheryte. The quest will send you to the Flagship in Azys Lla, where Wedge tasks you with entering the Fractal Continuum to find piece of A𝔉llagan tech to fix Gilly, the node that first guided you through Azys Lla.
Finishing “Do It For Gilly” will award the Accompaniment Node minion. The Fractal Continuum, like Neverreap, awards Valerian armor and Baldur weaponry. Players can als💛o earn the Owlet minion and a Triple Triad card from the final boss.
The Great Gubal Library (Hard)
Ready to get your butt kicked ꦯby the world’s meanest librarian again? Midnight Dew thinks you are! Head to Idyllshire after finishing “Heavensward” and speak with Midnight Dew to꧂ pick up “Let Me Gubal That For You”.
The hard ⛄version of the Great Gubal Library—as if the normal version isn’t difficult enough—will award the Duelist/Thief/Plague set.
Sohm Al (Hard)
Finishing “Heavensward” will allow you to speak with the Gossamer Moogle in Idyllshire, who will give you the quest “The Fires of Sohm Al”. Speed away to Vidofnir at the Sohm Al summit, and she will charge you with clearing Sohm Al of the aggressive monsters 🌄that have ov♔errun the mountain now that you’ve killed Tioman.
Sohm Al (Hard) awards the Filibuster set.
The following𒊎 dungeons are hard versions of A Realm Reborn dungeo🔯ns, which don’t award very impressive gear, but will diversify your 50/60/70 daily Duty Finder roulettes.
Pharos Sirius (Hard)
Remember Pharos Sirius from A Realm Reborn? Well, it’s been reborn as a level 60 dungeꦐon, so unlock and clear regular Pharos Sirius, finish “Heavensward”, and make your way to the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks to pick up “Things Are Getting Sirius” from Trachraet.
The quest will unlock Pharos Sirius (Hard), which awards the Duelisꦐt/Thief/Plague s✨et.
The Lost City of Amdapor (Hard)
Unlock and clear the Lost City of Amdapor, finish “Heavensward”, then return to Old Gridania and speak with E-Sumi-Yan at the Conjurer’s Guild🌠 to pick up “One More Night in Amdapor”. Apparently, clearing the Lost City the first time around w✅asn’t quite enough to exorcise the dungeon of malevolent spirits, so you’re back at it again.
The Lost City of Amdapor (Hard) awards Dravanian lℱoot, a༺nd players can earn the Morpho minion and the Kuribu Triple Triad card from defeating the last boss.
Hullbreaker Isle (Hard)
Now that you’ve returned the legendary Mistbeard’s mask to🦩 Eynazahr, the Maelstrom’s second-in-command has plans to convert the Isle into a training ground for the Grand Company’s elite soldiers.
Namely, by throwing them against you. Speak with Denston in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks after finishing “Heavensward” and ꧂clearing Hullbreaker Isle for the first time to pick up “Storming the Hull”.
Hullbreaker Isle (Hard) awards Berserker/Viking/Conquerer/Subjugator/Panegyrist/Prophet loot. Defeating the final boss may also earn players the Calamari minion a♈nd a Mistbeard Triple Triad card.
