168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Tabletop wargaming can be a deep and satisfying hobby, but for those taking their first steps, it can be a minefield. Entering a hobby store for the ꦺfirst time can feel a bit overwhelming, especially when we consider the sheer amount of products available. But truth be told, once you have chosen a game you don’t need much to get started. Here are our five essential tools wargamers need to start playing (in addition to the rulebook and minis of course).
Tape Measure
This may seem like a bit of a no-brainer but you will be surprised by how many gamers rely on other measuring products. A good tape measure will last you a lifetime whereas the plastic measuring sticks and rules that are provided in starter boxes are prone to break or have their numbers rubbed off. Not the case with a good flexible steel rule. These are designed for heavy abuse in construction and also snap back into the enclosure when not in use for extra protection♛. Most games use inches, so make sure you pick up a tape measure that handles both imperial standard and metric, this way you can use the same measure across multiple game systems.
Dice
You can never have too many dice! You can buy sets of polyhedral dice fairly cheap now in a variety of colors and styles. You will also find claims over the randomness from some manufacturers. Yes, we are looking for a set of fair and truly random dice for the best games, but the jury is out on whether buying such 'engineered' dice is worth it. Generally speaking, transparent plastic dice are your best bet as you can see how they are made. You are looking for dice with 100% fill - avoid anything with an air bubble trapped as this will sway the result. You can also test your dice for true randomness by making test rolls. Floating a die in a glass of saltwater and spinning it until it rests and noting the result will give you a results tally for the times each number is landed on. Fair dice will have an even spread and anything that favors one number over the 🔯others should be avoided, especially if it is low.
Laser Pointer / Red Dot
Ever had an argument over the line of sight? A laser pointer can answer this problem quickly. Shine the pointer towards the target from the shooter's location. If the pointer is disrupted or blocked by terrain then the shot fails, but if the beam hits the target then you know thꦆe shot is at least possible. Some systems have rules regarding obscured or partial visibility and even what part of the target is hit! Again, these questions can be solved through the pointers' beam. This is an essential but often overlooked pie🔴ce of equipment.
Transport Case
We still see new gamers turn up at games with their miniatures and equipment poorly packed. This often results in their hard work on paint jobs destroyed by chipping as the models have bashed together in transport. A good case will have foam that is sized for individual miniature placement with ample protection to prevent this. There will usually be an area to put rulebooks, dice, and other accessories, reducing the amount of bags you n🐎eed to bring with you!
Journal
Most gamers just turn up and play without giving this a second thought, but a gaming journal is essential if you want to improve. Making notes on who you have played against, the armies involved and the outcome are no-brainers, but what about the tactics you deployed? How did your strategy work? Your notes are indispensable as you can prepare for your next battle taking in mind your previous games. You can also see patterns develop, perhaps a certain tactic doesn’t work as well against a particular troop or army type? The only way you will🎃 find out is by keeping records of your games. Make notes as you play and either create a battle report later at home or take a break to flesh things out after the game. Don’t be ‘that guy’ who holds up a battle needlessly!
Hopefully, these five essential items will improve your game and serve as a starting point for building your gaming kit. Don’t be afraid to add to this or switch things out depending on your needs. Regardless, you should always know where yoཧur equipment is, make a note of who you lent something to, or better still, don’t do it to begin with! Happy gaming.
