After a long wait, Fortnite's Joyride Update has officially launched, adding drivable vehicles to the battle royale juggernaut's map. Bringing several vehicle types with different characteristics, specific ways to find fuel, and a damage system unlike anything we've seen in other games, the update has a lot to unpack. So, here's everything you need to know about cars in Fortnite.
Vehicle Types
Fortnite has four different types of vehicles: sedans, sports cars, trucks, and semi-truc♚ks. Sed♚ans and trucks are the most common, each holding a maximum of three teammates and spawning across the map with various paint jobs. Like the other vehicles, they include a powerslide mechanic that allows you to drift around corners.
Sports cars go faster than the standard sedans and also have a boost that can be trigg🍎ered at any time. That being said, the boost quickly drains your gas, so it's important to choose when and why you want to use it. For example, when you hit another player during a boost, it will instantly eliminate them.
Finally, semi-trucks are the largest new vehicle in Fortnite. They move more slowly than every other option, but also have the most health and deal more da𒊎mage upon impact compared to the sedans.
Fuel
Most vehicles that you find will spawn with less than a half tank of gas, and they all b🎃urn through gas considerably fast. On the map, you'll notice that many named locations contain gas stations, giving you a perfectඣ source of unlimited fuel. You can also find gas cans location around the map, giving you the advantage of refueling anywhere.
Gas cans and stations c❀an be damaged and create an explosion, so it's important to make sure you're safe before you begin fueling. Moving around while filling up your car is a good idea too, otherwise you'll become an easy sniping target.
PvP Functionality
Fortnite's cars are not to be taken lightly, especiall♍y in Squads. Each vehicle can hold a team of players, and each of those players can hang out of a window to fire their weapon. It's certainly a strong threat to anyone on the ground, especially𝕴 considering how much damage the vehicles do upon impact.
Teammates even have the ability to build while sitting in the passenger seat as well. This means that teams can quickly create ramps or other protective structures whi𝔍le driving, something that is guaranteed to mix things up a bit.
To even things, players are bounced high up into the air when a car strikes them. This can give you a chance to gather yourself as opposed to games like GTA Online where getting struckꦛ by a vehicle pretty much spells the end.
That being s🌼aid, each vehicle's body can be worked through fairly quickly. Unloading a few rounds into most cars will cause them to explode, forcing enemies to exit. This can also lead to chain reactions between multiple cars and multiple gas cans.
Overview
Overall, Fortnite's Joyride Update brings some great new content to the battle royale shooter, especially after players have been complaining about a lack of mobility since Chapter 2 first launched. The cars add a fresh new element of gameplay and even popular licensed music on the Party Royale Radio playlist. It's hard to stay relevant in the world of competitive gaming, but Fortnite somehow keeps figuring it out.
