It wouldn't be a new chapter or season without new weapons and items, and if you want a surefire way to find these, then it's a good idea to seek out the new Oathbound chests.
These new chests are easy to spot, if you're in the right area, as they're twice the size of a normal chest, plus they're white and gold. Oathbound chests look very regal and are tied to The Ageless, a new character for this season. The Ageless' armour is the same colour as the Oathbound chests, showing a connection.
Where Are Oathbound Chests?
You can find Oathbound chests on the west and northwest of the map. They spawn in The Citadel, Shattered Slabs, Anvil Square, Breakwater Bay, and all the landmarks in between. The sound they give off is the same as a standard chest, but as they're larger, they won't spawn in tight spaces.
The Oathbound chests give off a glowing light that can catch your eye.
Interestingly the Oathbound chests can also spawn over in Faulty Splits, which, as you can see on our map, is another area of yellowed grass, rather than lush green. This suggests that the new chests only spawn in these faux-medieval zones. You're more likely to find the chests in attic spaces of Faulty Splits, almost like they've been hidden away.
What Loot Can Be Found?
Oathbound chests tend to drop similar loot to an Epic chest, but because these are bigger, they drop more loot. You're likely to receive a weapon, shield, gold, two stacks of ammo, and some materials (if playing in build mode), of course, the loot is still randomised. The Oathbound chest will give you a higher chance of finding the new Shockwave Hammer and guns of a higher rarity.
This new weapon is great for both combat and traversal; the Shockwave Hammer can pulverise opponents in just a few swings, but it can be used to bounce across the land🔴 by slamming it into the ground. This can only be used four times before the hammer moves into a cooldown period, after which it can be used again.
