Nothing gets past Fortnite players as some noticed just moments after this week's update that the water level at what was once the Grotto has dropped ever so slightly.
One of the main reasons Fortnite has remained so popular for as long as it has despite the premise of the game being pretty basic is its constant-evolving map. If you were to plop someone who played Fortnite when it launched onto today's map then they would probably think they were playing an entirely different game.
It's changing constantly, and Epic doesn't care how much the Fortnite community might love a particular area. Much like Game of Thrones during its heyday, anyone, or in this case anywhere, could die at any moment. That was the case for the Grotto a few seasons ago. The very popular underground point of interest was added during Chapter 2 Season 2, and then flooded and rendered inaccessible a season later.
Today's update has given players longing for the Grotto's return a new sense of hope. The water level that fills what was once the opening to the Grotto has dropped slightly, leading some to believe the water that has filled it for the past five seasons has started to drain away. Others fear that it's simply a mistake and the pool will be filled to the brim once again after a future update.
If the Grotto is about to reopen for business, that could mark the return of streamer Tfue to Fortnite. Tfue abandoned the game that made him famous earlier this year and has been focusing his a✃ttention on other games such as Apex Legends. However, less than a week ago, the streamer joked that if Epic drained the Grotto and brought the POI back, he would return to the game.
if he planned on returning to Fortnite. “When the Grotto comes back,” was Tfue's reply. This might be a funny gag by Epic in response to Tfue's comments. What he said and the drop in water level seems incredibly coincidental. Perhaps this really is all one big coincidence though, and just days after Tfue said the Grotto would bring him back to Fortnite, Epic instigated its plan to bring the POI back.
