Talk about a wild trans-media marketing strategy. In a random twist of fate, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fortnite has become an official part of the Disney 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Star Wars canon. This past weekend, Epic Games hosted a Star Wars event in its popular battle royale title that showed off some new footage from The Rise of Skywalker. It was a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:fun little event that culminated in a 3D model of diඣrector J.J. Abrams walking out of the Millennium Falcon and premiering footage from the "final" film in the Skywalker saga.
During the event, players heard the voice of Emperor Palpatine. The big bad of the original trilogy (and somewhat present in the prequels), his monologue is what Rise of Skywalker references. In the opening scrawl of the new movie, the text reads, "The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE." Thing is, that doesn't happen anywhere in The Last Jedi or Rise of Skywalker.
Seemingly, this text is referencing Fortnite. It's the only place where Palpatine made such a gesture. It certainly isn't contained in any of the movies, so that only leads to one conclusion: Fortnite is a part of Star Wars. When Rey, Poe, and Finn aren't busy tangoing with First Order troopers, they're throwing down 🥀a few rounds in Epic's insanely massive game.
The reality of the situation is that Abrams likely had leftover footage/dialogue from The Rise of Skywalker that he didn't have a proper place for in the story. Since Disney and Epic struck a deal for the new movie, he probably lent Palpatine's speech to make Star Wars fans feel like their time wasn't wasted. Either that or the film is going to reveal some strange crossover with Disney. Avengers: Endgame featured Fortnite after all, so why not Star Wars?
As we move into the future of the ever-growing threat of Disney's grasp, we'll likely continue to see trans-media events like this. What better way to encourage engagement than by putting pivotal plot developments in totally unrelated media? It is the perfec💟t marketing stunt!
