The handheld sector of video games has made some incredible accomplishments, but it’s an area that can often get overlooked in favor of the heavier hardware power of home consoles. Nintendo has always given a lot of attention to the handheld market and the Game Boy marks the beginning of the company really taking ad🌠vantage of what they could do her🀅e.
The Game Boy was a great place for original games as well as ports of NES titles, but Nintendo also used the handheld as a testing ground for sequels to NE꧑S titles, some of which are more obvious than others.
10 B༒alloon Kid 🍌
Balloon Fight for the NES is a creative enough platforming title, but Balloon Kid is the Game Boy sequel that does even more with its quirky premise. Balloon Kid sees Alice navigate through levels thanks to balloons that her brother has left for her. The game has four impressive bosses and even features a two-player mode, which the Game Boy was great about utilizing, but not always the best with advertising. Curiously, an updated version for the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Game Boy Color was released, but under the title Balloon Fight GB, which is somewhat confusing.
9 🤪Donkey Kong Land
The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Donkey Kong Country series are some of the most impressive looking games on the Super Nintendo, so the idea of porting those games over to the inferior Game Boy seems borderline impossible. Rather than directly function as ports, the Donkey Kong Land games simplify the series for the Game Boy's hardware, but are technically considered to be sequels and spin-offs than a standard re-release. Donkey Kong Land and its sequels sti🐎ll push the Game Boy hardware to its limits. Direct ports would later come out for the Game Boy Advance, but these still capture the series' energy.
8 Batt🐼le City 🐬
Battle City is one of the more obscure Game Boy titles and it's a game that never got localized out of Japan. The game is a basic, but creative,ജ multi-directional shooter where players control tanks and engage in combat. This variety of game can be hard to effectively display on the Game Boy and while this sequel isn’t perfect, it still feels like its predecessor.
Battle City is actually a sequel to Tank Battalion, a 1980s arcade game from Namco. Despite its obscurity, it still ended up on the Wii and Wii U's Virtual Console.
7 Amazing✅ Tater
Atlus has become one of the best developers in the industry, but Amazing Tater is a much more humble puzzle game where a potato tries to avoid obstacles and reach his goal. Atlus' charm is still very much present in the game. Curiously, Amazing Tater is a sequel to another Game Boy game called Kwirk, but that’s far from clear. Kwirk was also released for the PC-Engine so it’s possible someone could have transitioned from that version to the Game Boy 🐲sequel without realizin🐎g the connection.
6 🐲 The Rescue Of Princess Blobette
A Boy and His Blob is an unusual title for the original Nintendo that experienced a strange resurgence in more recent years with a modernized remake. David Crane and the team behind the game create a very satisfying sequel for the Game Boy called The Rescue of Princess Blobette that incorporates the same premise and characters, but with a new setting and goal in mind. 🏅The Game Boy feature💟s the same clever mix of puzzle and platforming and it doesn't feel like much is lost in this obscure and satisfying sequel.
5 Legend Of The River King G✨B💞
Nintendo has been able to embrace casual pastimes and base engrossing RPGs around them. Legend of the River King GB is actually the third game in the Kawa no Nushi fishing series, but it's the first game to get relℱeased in America on𝔉 the Game Boy.
Legend of the River King GB applies a fresh coat ꩲof paint to the franchise and makes for the perfect entry in the series to jump into. It's a fun mix of adventure and fishing with a bestiary almost as deep as a Pokédex. It’s aꦑ deceptively deep and rewarding game.
4 🧸 🥀 Harvest Moon GB
Harvest Moon GB pulls together many recreational ideas to effectively cultivate the feeling of managing a farm. The first entry in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Harvest Moon series for the Game Boy is actually the second installment in the franchise's original Story of Seasons series. Harvest Moon GB feels like a🌺 port of the NES title in many ways, but it still adds plenty to the formula as well as the advent of having the game be portable. The game received an upgraded and more aesthetically pleasing update for the Game Boy Color, which is an even more fulfilling experience.
3 Castlevania Legends 🥂
A trio of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Castlevania titles were released for the Game Boy and while Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge is clearly a sequel, Castlevania: The Adventure and Castlevania Legends are less obvious in how they add new chapters to the franchise. Legends is the last of the three games to be released and it stars Sonia Belmont and features both Alucard and Dracula by the end. Castlevania Legends remains an interesting entry in the series since established voice in the Castlevania series, Koji Igarashi,ඣ lat✱er declared the game to no longer be canon and considered it a disappointment in many respects.
2 🍎 Game Boy Wars
The tactical strategy genre of games really took some time to catch on outside of Japan. These war-based games can be a difficult sell and it’s for this reason that the Famicom Wars series didn’t gain steam in America until the Game Boy Advance’s 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Advance Wars series. Game Boy Wars is an evolution to what was started in Famicom Wars and while it’s difficult to translate the strategy to the Game Boy’s smaller screen, it still works. An updated version called Game Boy Wars Turbo as well as a series of seꦓquels followed to keep the franchise alive.
1 Kid Icarus: Of Myths And ♐Monsters ও
Kid Icarus is a franchise that's been easy to overlook throughout the years, but the inclusion of the series' protagonist, Pit, in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Smash Bros. series has gone a long ways. The original Kid Icarus for the NES is an entertaining game, but its Game Boy sequel, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, is actually a better game. Gameplay, graphics, and music are all exceptional and the bosses in particular look amazing. It's easily one of the best sequels for the Game Boy and an example of how it co✃uld be used to expand on NES series.
