Video game movies are alౠways a tough business because ▨you have to turn 10-60 hours of game into 1-2 hours of movie. Oftentimes, the movie adaptations fall short as the producers try to go for the quick cash grab and run before their pants fall off from financial failure.
Many of the gඣood video game movies are faithful at best, disrespectful to the intellig♔ence of others at their worst, and only mediocre or middling as movies when you take away the hype and nostalgia glasses. So here are 5 of the best-animated video game movies and 5 of the worst to boot.
10 ൲ Bes♛t: Detective Pikachu
Detective 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pikachu was a game for the 3DS before it became a movie. It may have live action in it, but arguably most of the movie is CGI in a Roger Rabbit sort of way. It stayed truthful to both the Franchise and the original game it was based on, and also h🧸ad the guts to have a heart in the story and have it be a character-revolving plot.
It easily appealed t🌳o kids and the nostalgia of adults in a humorous and respectful way that shows the movie was produced by fans of the series.
9 Worst🅺: Ratchet and Clank
It was uncreative and surprisingly hard to follow for a ⭕game movie. It was made for fans but it was made with mediocre tools and story. The franchise would have better existed without this movie because it bombed 🐼hard. Its graphics weren't great to look at and jargon locked out potential fans, while also being displeasing to fans by not living up to the games and providing a good enough story.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ratchet and Clank was always more driven by gameplay rather than plot so the movie had a lot to bite off in creating an experience while also staying true to the source content in an attempt to make a canon story for the franchise, but it turned out to be 𒀰a half-baked blunder anyways.
8 ꦜ Best: Kings𝓡glaive Final Fantasy
One of the best independent 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy movies would be 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Kingsglaive. It's an hour-long spin-off tale from the game of Final Fantasy 15 that serves as a plot detailer on what happened when the game's charﷺacters left.
Honestly, it's a pretty good movie, it has great visual effects, a decent plot, pretty good twists, and excellent action. It is reminiscent of a standard thriller/spy movie but set in a fantastical world with a looming apocalypse, which is all you can ask from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy. The characters are okay, not great, but not detailed enough to care heavily and creat🤪e a fandom.
7 🍨 Worst: Final Fantasy Spirits Within
Yes, it was innovative, but it was far from a sensical pl🌸ot, exciting experience, or decent world-building. It was begrudged by fantastical filler dialogue filled with this movie's specific jargon that made any event hard to follow unless you had some sort of word key to understand it. The only appeal was "Oooh, look at the pretty graphics," which ꦑfittingly still look decent but there will be a time when those graphics are dated and the movie will lose all its pleasable experience in watching it.
Its plot wasn't related to any of the games and could have been called anything else and it would have made a difference. It failed in the box office and cost millions for Square Enix, so it would've been better for the👍m not to produce it.
6 Best: Street Fighter II: The A🅷nimated Movie
This is one of those movies that actually added to and benefitted the franchise. Its good animation and action scenes kept true to the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Street Fighter style while alsꦉo setting up ꦐthe plot for the next game.
It actually added ethos that would be used in the franchise making it canonically important to the total story. It had what many video game movies lack and that was faithfulness and originality with the concept. The story itself plays out like an old martial arts tale in a Dragon Ball Z-esque showdown between two enemies who won't die.
5 📖 Worst: The Angry Birds Movie ꦐ
The bird peeing scene, just ew and awkwardly long for it to have any comedic effect, add on top the gross-out humor that was put in the same scene when the birds found out they🔯 were essentially swimming in the other's toilet and you havꩲe an effectively ruined movie. 's path was determined to copy from as many movies as possible that it lacked any real originality and the experience wasn't worthwhile.
Not to mention the phoned-in voice acting from Red and you get a character you don't care about because he doesn't seem to care about anything going on. This movies' predictability is unmatched by any other modern movie, even The Emoji Movie.
4 ꦓ B𝄹est: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
This one is a tough one because it will jargon out people who didn't play the game, however, the movie is satisfying to people who have. If you don't know the plot of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy VII down to the T, you will not get this movie o𒈔r understand what's going on, if you played the game and barely got through it while skipping d🧸ialogue, you will not understand what's going on either.
If it's been years since you played the game, take in a lore refresher before starting the movie because you will get lost. Now as the movie's merit itself it's one of the best graphic wise especially with the directors cut. It works as an effective sꦗequel to the game and gives some closure to the ending and it's a pleasing movie to super fans of thisꦰ entry of the franchise, especially if you're looking for anime sword battles.
3 ꦉ Worst: The Angr🃏y Birds Movie 2
To add to the suffering, a box office bomb sequel was released well past the Angry Birds' prime. Another predictable affair with a pandering sense of self aware-Metaness in order to be modern💃ly relevant that it seems so ingenuine and phoned in. Once again going for the lowest apple on the tree with how they decided the plot and dialogue by copying other kid's show's plot methods for tackling the same ideas without effectively improving them.
They come out as𓆉 out of touch and brain-dead to the viewer who has seen the same message hammered into their head before. The type of message that plays out less like love and more out of political correctness appeal, marketing games, and spite. Add onto the mess of the potty-mouthed egg kid characters a✃s obvious spin-off merchandise bait and eye-rolling will ensue.
2 ဣ Best: Pokemon: The First🥀 Movie
Another tough one as it won't give a general audience a goo🎃d ground on what's going on if they don't know. It's not a start, more of a midꦕdle that a person is placed in, but once again a legacy movie that effected the total franchise by being financially successful.
Plot-wise it's more than anyone would get from the TV show, but you won't get an idea on the characters because they take a step back in the movie so the plot can happen. So it's much like Advent Children where you have to be a fan to enjoy it but will generally enjoy it if youꦑ are a fan. It is a story of higher quality than any of the other movies with more weight to it.
1 🍌 🐭 Worst: Sonic The Hedgehog The Movie
No, not the , the one from the '90s. Its tonality is all over and simply just a higher budgeted episode of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sonic The Hedgehog TV series, yes the old one🌼. It's honestly an anime adaption more than anything and wꦗas one of the first shots and variations of Sonic on screen, but character-wise and enjoyment wise it's not too special.
Nostalgia can play a factor for this movie, but you could get the same by watching the old tv show entitled 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sonic The Hedgehog. In the end, this movie went into obscurity and didn't provide much for the franchise, the games did 100% of the work in comparison. Its existence 🐭🎃is moot being that it brought nothing forward for the franchise and wasn't significant in the story.
