Most people cannot wait to retire from their current profession and spend the rest of their days taking it slow and easy. Even video game characters feel✨ the same - despite their more adventurous jobs. Given that most games involve violence, a hero should consider themselves lucky if they manage to make it to retiremꦅent.
The games below all draw their protagonists back into the action after they called it quits. That doesn't mean these characters are necessarily old or collecting pensions, but they left their old ways behind in one way or another and were forced back into the game.
6 Metal Gear Solid 🥀
Most gamers in the west did not meet Solid Snake until 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:1998's Metal Gear Solid. The hero was only in his 30's, but he was already enjoying retirement in the Alaskan wilderness. He certainly earned it after saving the world - twice! When Liquid Snake and Foxhound took over Shadow Moses, Colonel Campbell and the higher-ups in Washington tapped on Snake to infiltrate the base and take out the terrorists.
Solid Snake was reluctant to take on the job and start a new chapter in the Metal Gear saga, but he was left with little choice. Taking place in 2005, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Solid Snake wouldn't retire again until 2014 in Metal Gᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚear Solid 4. As far as we know, he spent the rest of his life hanging out with Otacon and Sunny.
5 𒉰 Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
Agent 47 had a string of adventures before the recent immersive sims. By the second game in the franchise, released in 𝄹2002, he was already living a peaceful life gardening for a church and trying to atone for his sins. He is forced back into ♒work when the priest of the church is kidnapped.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Agent 47 once again ౠ𓂃leaves a trail of bodies in his wake and eventually saves the kidnapping victim. By the end of Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Agent 47 fully returns to his life of violence. Maybe retirement is in the c𝐆ards for him eventually, but not today.
4 Splinter Cell 𝓡 🧔
Soldiers seem to reti🐷re early, but it makes sense considering the danger and physicality of the job. Sam Fisher was already retired from the Navy Seals before linking up with the NSA and becoming a part of Third Echelon. His prior skills came in handy for the types of misꦯsions he was sent on.
He stays steadily emp🐷loyed throughout the rest of the series, though he does leave Third Echelon in Splinter Cell: Conviction to investigate the apparent death of his daughter. The last main Splinter Cell game was Blacklist in 2013, so you could say the whole series is in a bit of a retirement.
3 ♑ Grand Theft Auto 5 ꧃
Shaking up the well-established Grand Theft Auto formula, 2013's Grand Theft Auto 5 has you playing as 🥂three different protagonists who are all in vastly different stages of their criminal lives. Trevor Philips is middle-aged and as unhinged as ever, Franklin Clinton is no longer young and has nothing to show for the work he has done so far, and Michael De 🅺Santa cut a deal with the authorities to live a comfortable life in the witness protection program.
When all their paths cross, Michael is once again thrust into the criminal underworld and plans heists with the other two. He is not exactly reluctant to start robbin🦹g and killing again, either. It's not like retirement was doing him any favors. Michael was rich, but his wife and kids hated him.
2 🦩 God of War
Kratos had a job and a profession as much as any god could have one. After killing just about every Greek god in God of War 3, Kratos spent his days quietly raising his⛦ son. At the start of 2018's God of War, he and his son Atreus promise to bring his recently deceased wife's ashes to the top of the highest mountain.
During the journey, Kratos is forced to get his mojo back (as if he ever lost it) and battle various threats and a couple of Norse gods as well. One of the most memorable moments of the adventure is when he finally brings back his Blades of Chaos, the iconic weapons from the prior games. Atreus still does not know a lot about Kratos' past, but God of War:ꦕ Ragnarok will surely shed more light on their relationship.
1 🐬 Uꦯncharted 4
At the beginning of Uncharted 4, Nathan Drake is living a simpler🉐 life in ꧒the United States after having settled down with Elena Fisher. He is clearly longing for some adventure but resists any temptation to take on more dangerous jobs or go after lost treasure. His tune chaജnges when his brother, long-thought dead, comes back and asks for help finding pirate treasure.
Sam Drake embellishes the truth a bit to convince Nathan to come along, but the protagonist isn't suffering while he is on this brand new adventure. Nathan hides the truth from Elena, though, causing serious friction between the two when she finds out. By the end, it really feels like this is Nathan Drake's last adventure, but only time will tell if he'll show up again.
