The 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert is one of the most influential works of science fiction of the 20th century. Set 11,000 years in the future where computers have been deemed taboo, Dune depicts a feudal-like system of houses 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that span the galaxy, and the resource spice is relied on heavily for space travel. Herbert wrote five more books set in 🍃the Dune universe, two movies have been made with a third on the way, and even the Sci-Fi Channel made its own minis🌊eries.

Dune: 6 Things From ꦉThe Book That Are Missing F꧅rom The Movies

From Gurney's musical inclinations t🐟o twisted mentats, here are all the subplots ﷽from the Dune books that are missing in the movie!

The political intrigue of Dune tends to suck people in and never let go. If you meet a Dune fan in the wild and mention the books, get buckled in for a long conversation. With a setting so rich, it’s easy to see why this universe would be rich for video game material. Several Dune video games have been made, but many others have drawn influen꧒ce from the universe that you may want to play. It doesn’t have to be Dune to feel like Dune, and these definitely fit the bill.

Updated March 4, 2024 by Zackary Wiggs: While Dune has been around since the '60s, there's never been a better time to hop into the wide and detailed universe. With new movies, new games, and new fans; you'll be in good company whether you're completely new or jumping back into the sandy world of Arrakis. Whether you love strategy games with as much intrigue as the feud between Harkonnens and Atreides, or you just want a game with plenty of sand and sun, there's plenty of games that encapsulate the feel of Dune.

Be The Ruler Of A Sci-Fi Planet

Considering Westwood Studios made Dune 2, a real-time strategy video game set in the Dune universe in 1992, it’s easy to see why their next work feels so much like Herbert’s work. Three years later, they would release 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Command and Conquer, and while it doesn’t have anything to do with Arrakis, it still rhymes. 𒊎C&C is set in the near future where Earth begins seeing the growth of the element know as Tiberium.

Much like spice, this makes the world go around and is invaluable. C&C’s RTS fundamentals feel like you could be a house scheming for stellar domination instead of GDI or Nod. You will have to manage the harvesters to operate the economy. These harvesters look suspiciously like the harvests you might see roaming for spice 𓆏on the surface of Arrakis. Future entries into the series only continue to get more operatic like Dune as Tiberium gradually destroys the environment of Earth.

13 Star Wars: Knights𒈔 Of The Old Republic

Everyone Loves A Desert Planet

It only makes sense to have not only a Star Wars game on the list, since the universe was inspired by Dune, but also 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Knights Of The Old Republic especially since it deals with a lot of the political struggle that goes on in the꧋🏅 Star Wars universe.

Perhaps th𝔉e best way to explain Alpha Centauri is to say it is part Sim City and part Dune. In 2067, the United Nations Starship Unity leaves earth for Alpha Centauri for a new start. Naturally, these new settlers split into different groups with different values and economic systems.

Instead of each faction in this strategy game having the goal of conquest,🦩 Alpha Centauri has complex politics. Both diplomacy and military might are viable strategies in this game, whereas Dune was a page-turning mix of hous🐓es jockeying for power and talk of using atomics.

So the Mad Max setting isn’t exactly a match with the grand sweeping space drama of Dune. The 2015 Mad Max video game, ho𒀰wever, does an amazing job of setting up an open world wasteland not that far off from living on Arrakis.

Granted there are remnants of human society scattered around the wasteland,🍬 and there are no giant sandworms roaming about, but the focus on surviving the wasteland is akin to Fremen on Arrakis. Max will have to scavenge for food, water and scrap metal. While Paul Atreides never drove a V8 Interceptor, he probably would have if it were in his universe.

The Grimdark Future

The similarities between 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warhammer 40k and Dune are hard to ignore. Both are set in the far off future, and both settings reject artificial intelligence after a robot revolt. Both use human computers and both 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:have an emperor. Warhammer has the same kind of feudalism and aristocracy impacting inteಌrstellar happenings like in the Dune universe.

Space travel is essentially achieved by weird and mutated navigators and there are plenty of religious undertones. Wa💛rhammer 40k mi💝ght be the closest you can get to Dune without actually playing a Dune game.

A Sea Of Sand

This 2016 real-time strategy game is set on the desert planet of Kharak, 106 years before the events of the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Homeworld game. This game has the lo♌ok of Dune all over it. The nomadic factions have the grand political intrigue fell to it — even the names in the game sound like they were taken from Herbert’s novels.

This MMORG has been around since 2003 and contains nearly 8,000 start stations. The game is one big single shared galaxy and the players determine the economic conditions, wars and political alliances. Basically, it's a user-made space opera.

If you think Dune was a long book, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Eve Online one had a battle online involving thousands of players and took 21 hours to complete. The best part? This actually caused two factions to withdraw from an entire region of EVE Online’s universe. Saying that EVE Online is a space opera is understatement, and you can quickly find yourself getting lost in its trade and economic systems. It not only pretends to be expansive like Dune, it is that expansive.

Released by THQ in 2009, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Red Faction: Guerilla takes place on Mars in 2125꧑. The main character, Alex Mason, becomes a freedom fighter after his brother is murdered, and you spend the game destroying buildings and sparking a rebellion against the Earth Defense Force.

While Mars has been terraformed, so you can breathe outside, it’s still a rocky, dusty setting that you’ve come to know and love about Mars. T꧅he relative freedom in a Fremen-like rebellion offers rewarding gameplay, and it comes as no surprise that this game was well received by critics.
