The concept of demons has been around since long before the inception of video games, so it makes sense that they'd appear in video games eventually once they evolved past games like Pong and Pac-Man. While demons are usually an enemy in most of these games, many other games allow you to play as these monstrous beings. You're able to help them reach their goals, whether they be expectedly evil or unexpectedly noble, and everything in between.

While playing as a demon isn't something that's never been done before, it isn't really overdone either. Controlling a demon character has a lot of potential for a more thought-provoking story. Do their motivations and goals line up with what you'd expect from a typical demon, or do they want to go against the grain for their own reasons? Also, who would say no to having cool dark powers that you don't typically see in regular protagonists?
11 🌞 The Darkness
The Darkness is about what you'd expect for a game with such a title. You play as Jackie, a member of the mafia who becomes possessed by a demon spirit that has been around the family bloodline for generations. Jackie has no problem using The Darkness' demon powers for his mission of tracking down the gangster who put a hit on him, killing anyone who stands in his way.
You largely use standard weapons in this game, but you can also use The Darkness' powers - such as summoning monsters and tentacles that impale your opponents. As you progress through the game, more powers are available for you to unlock, and you can even enhance your existing ones. This is an interesting way of showing how The Darkness is slowly taking over Jackie's entire being.
10 Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness 𓃲
Despite the game's title and half-demon protagonist, you can still expect the typical Disgaea humor and shenanigans in Hour of Darkness. You follow the story of Laharl, the demon prince of the Netherworld whose father, the Overlord, has passed away. He's on a journey to take over the throne before his traitorous vassals, who opted to try doing the same in his absence, can.
Laharl is arrogant and takes pride in being wicked, as that's what's expected of a demon. But because he still has a human half, there are moments where he shows kindness and altruism, to the point where he can even sacrifice himself for someone else's sake. What ending you get depends on your actions as Laharl, which leaves his moral compass up to you.
9 Metal:🤪 Hellsinger

While the game's story and narration leave something to be desired, the main cruxes of the game are the gameplay and the music.
