GTA Online still brings in an absurd amount of revenue each year while each of their cowboy games has earned them aꦜccolades from both critics and fans alike.
Unfortunately, because GTA tends to take place in modern times - even though GTA V came out in 2013 - and Red Dead is set during the dying days of the west, there's very little opportunity for both series to cross over. Yet, somehow those mad lads over at Rockstar managed to slip a little Red Dead easter egg into GTA Online.
GTA Online's character creation process has always been pretty weird. Instead of letting you customize your physical featu♕res, it requires the player to choose from a selection of different moms and dads. After you settle on whichever set of parents look the most appealing, it genera👍tes the appearance of your avatar based on your choice. Again, it's really odd.
Within that limited gene pool is none other than arguably the most important person in the entire Red Dead franchise, John Marston. Yes, you can make John your dad which allows you to take on some of his unique ꧒genetic🌟 characteristics.
Although doing so does raise a few important questions. Like for example, if John Marston is your dad, wouldn't that make your character incredibly old? John Marston died in 1911 at the age of 38. GTA V released in 2013. That means that even if you were conceived in the last year of his life your character would still be around 102 years old. Even if they took astonishingly good care of themselves, that's still far too old to ꦅbe stealing cars and planning heists.
John being your father also messes with the established canon quite a bit. As it says in , there's no option to have Abigail as a mother as that would obviously just lead to you looking like Jack. So then that means at some point he created a child with someone other than Abigail, which is something that hasn't been established in any of the Red Dead lore. RDR2 does imply that John messed around witဣh other women, but it's hard to believe that he impregnated so many ladies that there's now an army of Marstons running around Los Santos.
Of course, it's doubtful that this is meant to be taken seriously since GTA Online is nothing more than a goofy online crime simulator where you can fire a machine gun while riding a flying motorcycle on the way to your meth lab. Still, it is amusing to imagine a city full of violent centenarian cowfolks blasting people with rocket launchers while cursi🧸ng the name of Edgar Ross🔴.
