So it turns out the iconic “get over here” yell of Scorpion i💯s a result of Ed Boon screaming himself hoarse in a footౠball game.

Scorpion is considered, by and large, to be the true face of Mortal Kombat. Sure, Liu Kang is always the hero, and Sub-Zero is always doing his ninja thing, but Scorpion has both being a ninja and a demon from hell going for him. It’s hard to ♌keep that amount of awesome from being the face of the franchise.

Today Mortal Kombat commands a big budget, but way back in the day when Midway was first getting started, they made🤪 all their games on budgets filled with microwave ramen and PCs held together with shoestrings. Thus, pretty much all the limited voice acting you heard was all performed by M𓂃idway employees, including the series creator, Ed Boon.

Boon famously voiced Scorpion in the original Mortal Kombat, screaming out his signatur꧂e “get over here” line whenever he let loose his spear special move. It doesn’t quite sound like Ed Boon’s re𓂃gular voice or even other lines Scorpion says in later games. And it turns out there’s a reason for that.

In an interview with , Boon said that the reason the “get over here” line was so intense was mostly because of a completely different game that Midway was working on at the time: High Impact Football. Midway employees all provided the 🌱voices of the players’ various grunts, shouts, and yells, and Boon was no exception.

"We were still kinda in that mode, and I was one of the guys yelling in High Impact Football, so I was the guy 𒁏t🐼o yell as Scorpion,” he said, explaining that Scorpion’s signature hoarseness was less to do with his time in hell and more to do with his enthusiasm for football.

When asked why Scorpion always seems to have a different voice for the “get over here” line in more modern MK 🅷games, he suggested that it might be coming from a different🎃 spot.

Mortal Kombat 11 comes out April 23rd, and once💃 again, Scorpion is prominently displayed on the cover art.
