Who w🌳ould’ve thought that a Half-Life mod that let you make goofy parodies of Valve characters would eventually go on to sel𓆏l 20 million copies?
Facepunch, the developers of the wildly popular 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Garry’s Mod, have just announced that their sandbox title has crossed the 20 million milestone. The first of the “game that makes other games” titles, Garry’s Mod has become an icon amongst🦂 the modding community and has been the source of countless hilarious videos on YouTube.
What started as a simple Half-Life mod by Garry Newman back in 2004 quickly grew to 𓆉become its own standalone game that was released in November 2006. The funny thing is that Garry’s Mod really isn’t much of a game--there are no rules, no win conditions, and no objectives. You just place whatever assets you want and then shoot them around a sandbox, taking pictures or just giggling at the weirdness of the Source Engine’s physics engine.
Oh, and let’s not forget the utterly horrifying facial expressions that are possible wi🍸th Garry’s Mod.
But what makes Garry’s Mod so incrediblಌe is what anyone can do with it. The game freely accepts mods (called “addons” in the game) via the Steam workshop, allowing you to experience player creations from countless other mod makers.
Garry’s Mod is up there with Counter-Strike, Defense of the Ancients, and Black Mesa as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:one of the most su꧒ccessful mods ever made, but it’s als♓o just one of the👍 most successful games ever made, tying both The Last Of Us And GTA: Vice City as the 49th best-selling game of all time (according to ).
As successful as Garry’s Mod is, the game is starting to look a little bit dated. That’s why Facepunch is working with Valve to create s&box, a Garry’s Mod sequel built in the Source 2 engine. Not only that, s&box is also being used by a group of dedicated Team Foꦓrtress 2 fans to♛ remake the game in Source 2.
