Update 17:21 BST 27/04/2024: GDC has provided the following statement in response to reports of attendees being spiked and ignored by the authorities: "Safety is a top concern for the Game Developers Conference (GDC) team, and to that end, the GDC extensively bolstered their safety measures this year to address possible concerns around both onsite incidents and those that can take place at satellite events and throughout the city. GDC established a series of initiatives to help keep all attendees safe during their time in and around the Moscone Center."
An attendee of GDC 2024 says that her drink was spiked at a hotel bar, but authorities refused to investigate the matter. Snow Rui, president of the game publisher Hooded Horse, says that she was met with "complete indifference" from emergency services, with police reluctant 🥃to investigate and the hospital she was admitted to refusing to run tests for commonly used date rape drugs.
Rui says that she and her team at Hooded Horse did "everything possible" to keep her safe and report this to the authorities as soon as possible. However, one of her coworkers tells me that they were &🧔quot;treated with indifference" by authorities, noting that "crucial evidence was overlooked". In response, they call for GDC to be held in a different city in the future, as police in San Francisco are "indifferent" towards complaints of drink spiking.
In previous years, others have reported having their drinks tampered with during GDC week. Last year, 168澳洲幸ꦜ运5开奖网:a spokesperson for the event told TheGamer that it "severely condemn[s]" this behaviour, and "encourage[s] reportin🔥g to the police."

Women In Games Says Industry Is "Going B🍌ackwards" After GDC Drink Spiking
Women in Games says we're "going backwards" in t𒁃he fight against sexism and abuse in the gaming industry.
However, as Rui's account highlights, that may not be enough. The incident did not take place at GDC but at a bar in a hotel in which "many GDC attendees stay". Rui estimates that she had been drinking slowly throughout the night, and no one in the group was intoxicated before they noticed a change in Rui's behaviour.
"Suddenly aft🔥er a round shortly before closing, I began deteriorating," says Rui, sharing her experiences in a . "My friends said that I began to seem extremely intoxicated, and they became quite confused as to why."
Rui says this quickly escalated when her friends tried to take her back to her hotel room. "By the time they walked me to the elev🌸ator, I was no longer able to reply coherently to their questions, and by the time we reached my floor, I was no longer ꦆable to stand or walk. My husband Tim met us in the hall – by the time we reached the room, I was vomiting uncontrollably and slipping in and out of consciousness."
How many mor🍸e cases like mine have been dismissed in the past?🌱 - Snow Rui, President of Hooded Horse.
Her friends calle𒆙d an ambulance and tried to report🌳 the incident to the police. Rui says that they felt confident they could pinpoint when her drink would have been tampered with, but claims police dismissed this, saying she was "simply drunk". They say that authorities dismissed that fentanyl and methamphetamine were involved based on her symptoms, and felt that other drugs, such as GHB and Rohypnol, were "too uncommon to be worth considering."
"My friends stood their ground – they stressed they had been with me continuously that night and that we had only ordered drinks together so they knew exactly how much I drank. Over and over they told the story above, reject🐼ing the police officer’s repeated attempts to convince them to drop the matter."
The hospital initially refused to run tests for other date rape drugs but eventually said it would after being pushed to by Rui and her husband. However, Rui says that when she got the results back, they had only looked for recreational drugs like cocaine and marijuana. When she once again asked for drugs such as GHB and Rohypnol to be considered, she said she was told that this would "consume too many resources". Now, she's still waiting for an investigator to be assigned to her report to the police and has been told this could take up to two weeks.
Speaking to TheGamer, Hooded Horse told us that the team "echoes the call of others who have asked the GDC organizers to consider a new city for future events." The spokesperson added, &♐quot;Snow wanted to share her story to highlight🏅 that there is still a problem at GDC, and the dangerous indifference of the San Francisco public services in incidents like these."
TheGamer has contacted GDC for comment.
