Gearbox may have just accidentally leaked the release date of Borderlands 3 and al🦄so revealed that🅘 it will be on the Epic Games Store.

Will Borderlands 3 be an Epic Games Store exclusive? That’s the question Borderlands fans are askingﷺ after Gearbox tweeted out the release date of the third installment of the franchise along with another teaser video that seemed to show the Epic Games Store logo.

The tweets have since been d🌳eleted, ♊but nothing escapes the internet that easily. Twitter user Wario64 reposted both tweets on his own Twitter feed using the power web.archive.

In the first𝓀 tweet, we get the release date of September 13th along with the promise that pre-orders will get golden weapon💧 skins. There’s also a picture of what appears to be… nothing. Which is odd.

Given the tweet was se🌠nt on April 1st ♚and the apparent picture of a wall texture means that this could have been an April Fools joke gone awry.

A second tweet is far less likely to be a mere joke. The 6-second video pro🐠mises “Bazilions of guns”, and in the bottom right-hand corner is the unmistakable logo of the Epic Games S꧅tore.

Epic has been gobbling up big releases and turning them into exclusives for some time now, and adding Borderlands 3 to their arsenal would be a big win. Every previous Borderlands game has been released on Steam, with many Borderlands fans hesitant to install another loader.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford commented on the leak later in the day to say that 2K Games, Gearbox’s publisher, has final say on every decision regarding distribution, and that includes one digital platform 2K decides Borderlands 3 will release 🌳on. He also mentioned that he doesn’t think exclusive games ar♊e that big of a deal provided the exclusivity is a reasonable amount of time and offers 6 months as an example.

There’s been no word from 2K on whether or not Borderlands 3 will be an Epic exclusive title, but we’ll learn more in a few days. Earlier in March, Pitchford said that the game’s release date and details will be revealed in an announcement on April 3rd to coincide with the release of a high-definition graphics pack for The Handsome Collection and the Game of the Year edition of the original Borderlands.
