The planet of Sera is the setting for the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gears of War franchise. It's the home of humanity, the Locust and the Swarm. Gears 5 focuses on the Swarm War, but this is just one event in the history of the planet. Sera boasts thousands of years of rich history that playe꧅rs haven't experienced first-hand in the games.

Every new game adds a few more details to the world and there is still plenty to explore about the COG (♋168澳洲幸运5开奖网♏:formerly including the iconic Marcus Fenix), the Loc🥀ust and the planet itself. There is a lot of information already available, though, including many little details about Sera would have been easy to miss.

10 🍬 Sera Is A Lot Like Earth, With Some Key Differences

The Hollow from Gears of War

Seen at a distance, Sera looks a lot like Earth. It's a continental planet with massive oceans and similar climates. It also has similar ethnic groupings, historical parallels 🤪and fossil fuels. However, there are some key differences between Sera and Earth.

Sera has a 26 hour day and two moons. Like Earth, it has oil and🌃 nuclear energy, but Sera also has Imulsion, an energy source that plays a key role in the series. Finally, Sera has The Hollow, a giant network of tunnels and caverns underneath the planet's surface.

9 𝓡 Sera Has Never Been (And May Never Be) Officially Mapped

Globe of Sera from Gears of War 4

No canonical map has ever been produced for Sera and The Coalition has stated that they may never do so༺. This is because they don't want to be tied down by it if future games require changes to tඣhe geography.

An unofficial map was created by actor and designer Chris Bartlett, using names from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Star Wars. This map appeared briefly in a cutscene in Gears of War 2, but has no official status outside this. It's as tough to tie down Sera's geography as it is to dec𝓀ide whether Gears of War: Judgment is worth playing.

8 Sera Is Ares Spelt Back🌊wꦛards

Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War

Ares was the Greek god of warfare. For the Ancient Greeks, he was simultaneously a necessary and dangerous figure, representing success in war as well as the destructive n🅺ature of battle. He represents the violence and bloodlust of conflict, as opposed to the strategic element of warfare personified by Athena.

Ares is, therefore, a very appropriate figure for the war-torn planet of Sera to be named after. It's not the only such name in the Gears universe: the nearby pla✤net of Risea is a backward spelling of Aesir, the Norse gods.

7 S𓆏era Has Been At War For Most Of Its History 𝓰

Seran history begins with the Age of Armageddon; one thousand years of uninterrupted warfare in which the human race was nearly wiped out. Eventually, humanity turned from its warlike ways and e🐲mbarked upon a period of peace known as the Era of Silence. This lasted just under 40 years before fighting over the recently discovered Imulsion ushered in the Pendulum Wars between the COG and the UIR.

The Pendulum Wars raged for 79 years before the COG emerged victorious. Humanity rested for 🍨a mere six weeks before Emergence Day and the coordinated assault by the Locust.

6 🔥 The First Two Superpowers Fought With Swords A🐲nd Chariots

During the Age of Armageddon, the first two superpowers were created: the nations of Kashkur and Gorasnaya. The early years of these empires were known as the Silver Age, with both nations conquering various smaller states to fo🎀rge empires of their own. They fought mainly with weapons such as swords and chariots.

The two empires were rather advanced compared to places like Ephyra (the fut𒉰ure capital of the COG). Despite the eventual loss of their empires, Kashkur and Gor🔯asnaya would become important members of the COG and UIR respectively.

5 Imulsion Is An Allegܫory Fo෴r Oil

Lethia Imulsion Facility from Gears of War

Despite the existence of oil and petroleum in the Gears universe𒁏, Imulsion is a cl🀅ear allegory to Earth's relationship with oil. The "Gold Rush" economic boom that followed the discovery of Imulsion is a reference to the nickname for oil, "Black Gold."

The allegory is further reinforced by the presence of anti-war posters bearing the slogan "No Blood for Imulsion." Even the process of excavation, extraction, and refinem𒅌ent of Imulsion is the same as the oil distribution process ♋in our world.

4 ꦍ Most Of Seran Culture Is Based On War

Settlement 5 from Gears of War 4

Unsurprisingly for a planet that has been constantly at war, there are strong links between Seran culture and warfare. The COG in particular is a militaristic, authoritarian force that demands loyဣalty to the ideals of the state.

The Octus Canon, the eight virtues on which the COG was founded, emphasize the importance of military ideals: Order, Diligence, Purity, Labor, Honor, Loyalty, Faith and Humility. Likewise, the COG's holidays are mostly war-related, such as Victory Day and the Day of the Fallen🃏.

3 Sera Has A Diverse Set O♚f Religions

The Octus Canon is so embedded into the COG way of life that it has taken on a tremendous significance, but there is evidence of actual religion on Sera. One of the Canon's tenets is Faith and their religion includes a monotheistic God. The Tyran city of Ilima had 💫a Cathedral.

The Irohma Islanders also have their own religion, be🅷lieving that a person's body was sacred until their soul left, at which point the body was a useless husk. The Locusts also have their own religion, including an order of monks called the Kantus.

2 ꧒ They Still Have Fun Sometimes Though

In the brief times they're not fighting, there is some entertainment available for t🎃he Serans. Thrashball was the most popular sport and Augustus Cole was a Thrashball player in the position of defensive lineman. They also had libraries, museums, and theatres.

In Gears 5, players visit the theatre where Embry: The Musical is showing: a musical about the COG Allfather, Nassar Embry. Wine also exists on Sera. The Stroud family estate, where Marcus Fenix and Anya Stroud lived after the Locust War ended (a somewhat happy ending compared to some of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gears 5's potential endings), included a winery.

1 The Human Population Of Sera Was Almost Totally Wiped Out As A Result Of The Locust Invasion 𝓀

Humans were the dominant race on Sera for thousands of years, but this all changed following the Locust Invasion. It's estimated that a quarter of the po꧙pulation was killed in the first 26 hours after E-Day.

After 15 years of the Locust War, it was believed that 99% of the population had perished. Not just at the hands of the Locust, but also owing to the COG's use of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that mighty and monstrous weapon, the Hammer of Dawn, in the environmental𓂃 damage that followed.
