Forseeing everyone flocking to the half-price Ultimate Edition, and losing out on a lot of Reloaded sales in the process, Xbox has put it down in black and white that you needed to have owned the Ultimate Edition before it revealed Reloaded. The official reveal of the Gears of War remaster was made at midday EST on May 5, 2025. If you owned a digital copy of the Ultimate Edition on Xbox before that time on that day, then congratulations, you are eligible for a free upgrade to Reloaded when it launches on August 26, 2025.

If you have bought the Ultimate Edition since the reveal, thinking you had stumbled and fallen through a loophole, the bad news is Xbox saw you coming.
