Gears of War: Judgment is sometimes considered the black sheep of the Gears franchise. It did introduce players to a relationship between COG soldier Sofia Hendrik and UIR rebel Garron Paduk. Though surface-level examination of their relationship reveals nothing beyond similar political leanings, it ends up feeling like 🐈a ham-fisted reason to cause conflict between Paduk and Baird. When Sofia is kidnapped by nameless COG soldiers, Paduk blames Baird. Sofia never returns, and her fate remains an annoying mystery.
6 Love: Anya & Marcus 🐼
Anya Stroud and Marcus Fenix, alongside Dom and Maria, are one of the staple couples of the Gears series. They worked together all through the war with the Locust, and their romance felt completely natural to players. Fans loved Anya and Marcus together so much, it was absolutely dismaying to hear that she had passed away trying to have another child. It was one of the more depressing moments in Gears of War 4. Anya♎'s passing while trying to rebuild society afte🐟r the Locust-Lambent War makes total sense with her character, and Marcus' bitterness at her death fits the bill as well.
5 Annoying: Myrrah ♒& Dr. Torres
The new Gears games shocked players with the revelation that Myrrah is the grandmother of Kait Diaz. But as with any near-human lineage, procreation is necessary to have this result. Which basically means Myrrah got together with a human. Gears 5 revealed that a Dr.🦩 Torres became romantically involved with Myrrah when she was younger. While not inherently annoying, the lack of information as to how this worked out is𝔉 a tad irritating. Players have to find out what they can about this couple from in-game documents.
4 L🅘ove: Dom & Sam
Even though Dom and Maria as a couple is an iconic Gears of War pair, there is nothing but love for 🐼the relationship that grew between Sam and Dom later on. Perha𒀰ps more than any other member of their team, Sam sympathized with Dom's loss.
She was there for him during his worst time, and she supported him. Their🌠 relationship never truly became anything concrete as Dom sacrificed himself to save the t🎀eam, but there is no denying that his death deeply affected Sam.
3 🍸 Annoying: Sam & Baird
Honestly, we appreciated the banter that existed between Sam and Baird. The two playfully teased each other mercilessly. If their wit were to take physical form, it could cut down an entire army of Locust. However, their pairing felt like an add-on to the closeness between Sam and Dom. It's almost as if Sam and Baird were the back-up relationship for Sam and Dom once Dom was dead. Baird once e🌟ven points out that Sam only helps people if their name is "Dom," outright acknowledging his awareness of their closeness.
2 Lovꦓe: Kait & Del
Rather than having JD and Kait spend the majority of Gears 5 together, the game pairs Del and Kait instead, and this friendship is one of . Del's loyalty and sense of right and wrong perfectly complements Kait's. Their journey to discover Kait's past feels natural, even with the noticeable absence of JD. Depending on the choice a player made at the end of Gears 5, howe𝔉ver, they may 💙or may not see more of Del and Kait.
1 🐭 🍒 Annoying: Reyna & Gabriel
Nothing is more vexing for a player invested in a game's story than to have missing pieces of it go unexplained. Gabriel Diaz is a character in the upcoming Gears Tactics, and fans know he is husband to Reyna. However, we have no idea how this happened. We meet Reyna in Gears of War 4, and she se✱ems like an incredi💜bly interesting character. We just never get the opportunity to find out what her husband was like. He's only ever mentioned in passing, leaving us to scratch our heads in puzzlement.
