Gen.G has placed its entire professional CS:GO roster on the transfer list, members of the team announced yesterday. The three competitors and coach are now available to explore other playing opportunities for the upcoming 2021 season. In a , a Gen.G representative confirms the move does not refl🐼ect the organization choosing “VALORA🅷NT over CS.”
Gen.G first stepped into Counter-Strike in 2019 with the acquisition of Cloud9’s former core. The team consisted of in-game leader Damien “𒆙daps” Steele, Timothy “Autimatic” Ta, Kenneth “Koosta” Suen, TyꦦLoo star Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand, and Sam “s0m” Oh. With a staggering amount of talent on the squad, the team quickly became one of the best in North America.
The squad found victories at DreamHack Opeไn Anaheim and ESL One: Road to Rio North America in the first half of 2020. In-game leader daps stepped down from Gen.G’s active lineup in September, later retiring from professional Counter-Strike. Young star s0m left the squad shortly after, instead opting to pursue a care🃏er in VALORANT.
The team has fielded stand-ins since their departures, including Swedish players Richard “Xizt” Landström and Rasmus “kreaz” Johansson. The remaining members of the squad have now been ꦏput up for transfer ahead of the 2021 season.
“With 2020 coming to an end Gen.G has allowed me to look at my options for the 2021 season,” writes Autimatic in a Tweet. and coach shared similar sentiments, each of them stating they were open to offers from North America or Europe. Autimatic also adꦏdresses a potential switch to VALORANT in a , stating he’ll “make [his] decision” after trying out the game in the coming weeks.
It is unclear if Gen.G is pulling out of CS:GO entirely, or if they’ll look to pick up another squad after this one is released. In a , a Gen.G representative confirmed the “players aren't benched and it isn't VALORANT over CS.” The organization wants to allow the team to explore other options going into 2021, ꧑according to the statement.
There is currꦰently no word on where the players and coach will compete next.
