A wise person once said that a genius intellect is made of not just intelligence, but cleverness as well. Intelligence without cleverness is pointless trivia, and cleverness without intelligence is wasted potential. History's greatest geniuses weren't only well-educated, but knew how to apply their smarts in practical, beneficial ways.

While there is no shortage of geniuses in games, not all of them strike that balance of intelligence and cleverness. Some of them can come up with incredible ideas but don't know how to put them into action, while others are plenty capable but have no idea what they're doing. Being a genius isn't an exact science, as it turns out.

9 The Think Tank - Fallout: New🧜 Vegas 🦋

The Think Tank in Fallout: New Vegas

Prior to the Great War of the Fallout universe, Big MT was a Nevada-based research center where a privately-funded team researched the latest advancements in science and technology for the purposes of national defense. The executives of the research center were all brilliant in their own right, each with specializations in things like robotics and gene sequencing. When the bombs started dropping, they decide𒆙d that their minds needed to be preserved, so they could continue their research.

Unfortunaꦫtely, no one had the presence of mind to realize that turning themselves into robot brains in jars was a really bad idea. Due to a quirk of their👍 robotic bodies and their programming, all the executives started exhibiting erratic behavior, forgetting their humanity entirely, while their experiments spiraled into the realm of the impractical, weird, and dangerous.

8 Miu Irum꧋a - Danganronpa V3

Miu Iruma in Danganronpa V3

As the high schooler granted the title of Ultimate Inventor, Miu Iruma is undoubtedly a talented engineer. With the right tools and materials, she can make just about anything - was several of her inventions that set the students on the path to success in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Danganronpa V3. However, all of Miu's genuinely good inventions only came about from coercion or random impulses, and she doesn't care about any of them.

The only inventions Miu actually cares about fall into two broad categories: inventions that let you perform some random daily task while sleeping, or inventions born of a dirty joke, such as her teleporter gun that can only teleport peoples' underwear. If it doesn't have to do with sleeping or people's privates, Miu can't be bothered to make it.

7 President Shinra - F🅘inal Fantasy 7

President Shinra sitting with his fingers interlocked

President Shinra (who is apparently too rich for first names) fancies himself a business genius. Indeed, there is some truth to that, as the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Shinra Electric Power Company is the de facto ruler and provider for all of Midgar, and a major world power in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 7. He was definitely smar🧔t enough to realize the practical applications of Mako energy, though not nearly smart enough to realize he was marching the planet to its death.

Shinra is very aware of the fact that Mako is a finite resource, yet he still believes he could establish a "Neo Midgar" in the Ancients' Promised Land, powering it endlessly with its supposedly abundant Mako. Even if he could establish a city like that, the Mako would still run out one day, leaving him the President of absolutely nothing. It's not clear whether he's too blinded by greed to realize it, or is just looking for short-term gratification, but his lack of foresight is what put him in Sephiroth's crosshairs.

6 Raven Be🐽ak🐼 - Metroid Dread

Raven Beak boss in Metroid Dread

A standout member of the M𝄹awkin tribe of the technologically-advanced Chozo race, Raven Beak was both, a peak physical specimen and a cunning strategist. As he valued power above all else, Raven Beak saw the practical application of Metroids, and sought to use them to supplement his personal war machine. This was why he lured Samus to ZDR, so he could extract her Metroid hybrid DNA.

If Raven Beak had killed Samus at the start of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metroid Dread, his plan probably would've worked fine, but in his infinite arrogance, he instead opted to let Samus regain her strength and awaken her dormant Metroid abilities. When she confronted him, armed with these abilities, his only real plan was to order her to kneel before him and be his tool. Obviously, she didn't do that and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:kicked his butt.

5 Dr. Light - Mega Man Series ༒ ꧒

Dr. Light facing Dr. Wily in Mega Man 11

As the creator of the original Robot Masters, Dr. Light's philosophy is that humankind can live in harmony with robots. This is why he treats most of his creations, especially Rock and Roll, like his children, rather than things. Unfortunately, he never found a way to make his robots hack-proof, which is how they keep falling into Dr. Wily's hands.

That's annoying enough, but to make matters worse, when he created the first evolving robot, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mega Man X, Dr. Light didn't leave his schematics lying around for someone else to find. This led to humanity creating the Reploids based on educated guesses of X's physiology, which unsurprisingly led to numerous glitches and vulnerabilities like the Sigma Virus.

4 ♈ Bill - Pokemon Series

As the original creator of the Pokemon 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Storage System, Bill is arguably one of the most intelligent men in the entire Pokemon universe, one that certainly isn't spoiling for academics. Not only did Bill effectively create a means by which living creatures could be compressed into data and sent across long distances, he invented a genuine time machine that can send things back in time.

RELATED: 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon: The Smartest Psychic-Types

So why, then, hasn't the Pokemon world mastered things like teleportation or digital consciousnesses? Well, because Bill only cares about Pokemon. The storage system is only for storing Pokemon, and the time machine is only for trading Pokemon. This is probably why Bill has a tendency to get himself stuck in lifelike Pokemon costumes; the guy's a little too into Pokemon for his own good.

3 🍬 Dr. Eggman - Sonic The Hedgehog Series

Dr Eggman rising his fists while looking at the camera.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik, better known as Dr. Eggman, is a certified genius with an IQ confirmed to be over 300. His ruthless pursuit of his personal brand of science has borne incredible fruit, including semi-autonomous humanoid robots, various weapons systems, and even the adaptation of ancient magic and primal forces. It's a shame, then, that he's so preoccupied with his endless feud with an oversized blue rodent.

Eggman has stated multiple times that his ultimate desire is to create a hyper-advanced city-state to rule over - which is why he keeps trying to take over the world, to secure land and capital for such a thing. However, if Eggman were to patent just a few of his more benign inventions, such as his various 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:flying machines, he could probably make enough cash to bankroll the ♑creatio🐓n of such a city several times over.

2 🅷 DJ Subatomic Supeꦆrnova - No Straight Roads

DJ Subatomic Supernova with his helmet cracked in No Straight Roads

With a degree in astrophysics, DJ Subatomic Supernova is one of the most learned members of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:No Straight Roads' upper echelon. To his credit, he did play a major role in launching NSR's satellite, though for what purpose isn't explained. It doesn't really matter anyway, because DJ doesn't really care that much about NSR. The only thing he's interested in is deep space.

DJ uses his astrophysics know-how to regularly broadcast his EDM concerts into space in order to... do something. He phrases it as being an "avatar of Earth," which presumably means he wants potential aliens to hear his music and take it as a representation of Earth's culture. The existence of aliens aside, the guy's way too full of himself to do anything practical with that degree of his.

1 The🐻 Institute - Fallout 4

The lobby of The Institute in Fallout 4

Hidden deep beneath the Commonwealth in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fallout 4, is a clandestine organi✅zation dedicated to the furthering of scientific research over all else - The Institute. With its population of genius scientists safely sequestered from the dangers of the wasteland, The Institute has made some truly wondrous advancements, from food synthesizers to teleporters, not to mention its army of Synths.

The Institute's technology could revitalize the entire Commonwealth, if not the entire world, if it were made available. So... why isn't it? Well, because The Institute is waiting for everyone aboveground to die off before they start fixing everything. They could do it right now and save a lot of people, they just... don't want to. Incidentally, we're not referring to a single Institute researcher here, but the organization as a whole. You could throw a dart and hit a morally-deficient researcher down there.
