An arcade-style beat 'em up where a group of Z Fighters takes on a constant stream of enemies in a similar vein to the classic TMNT: Turtles in Time (but with Dragon Ball characters and powers) would be tons of fun.
There have been a couple of Dragon Ball beat 'em ups before, but that was a long time ago. Exploring the genre again with today's technolo⛎gy could result in some fantastic titles. Plus, if successful, it could reignite interest in 🌜the genre, as beat 'em ups games aren't as common as they used to be.
9 Shouldn't: Racing Games 💯
The Dragon Ball Z episode where Goku and Piccolo learn to drive (titled Goku's Ordeal) is a beloved one. However, despite the popularity and hilarity of the episode, Dragon Ball𓆉 game devel𓆏opers should stay far away from developing a full game around it.
While seeing all the Z Fighters decked out in civilian clothes like Goku and Piccolo were, would be funny, it'd still be a waste of the IP. Characters wouldn't be able to show off their fighting ability, nor their personalities, making the inclusion of Dragon Ball, pointless.
8 Should: Acꦍtion-Adventure 🌞
Dragon Ball games have incorporated aspects of action-adventure into some of their RPGs in the past, though they've never entirely committed to the genre. A fully-fledged action-adventure game in the Dragon Ball universe has a lot of promise. It could even be one of the few titles to put the focus on the original Dragon Ball series instead of Z, as the 🧔original anime was more of an adventure than it's successors who we♏re more focused on the big fights.
Also, focusing on Goku as a kid would allow the inclusion of Metroidvania elements too. Fo𝐆r example, the skills he learns and the equipment he receives could help him get to previously unreac🐈hable places like the Kamehameha to blast through walls or the Nimbus to fly over obstacles.
7 ཧ Shouldn't: First Person Fighters
There are not a lot of first-person fighters out there, but there is one under the Dragon Ball banner titled Dragon Ball Z: Kinect. The main problem with the game was the Kinect controls, yet hopefully, it also showed potential Dragon Ball game developers that first-person fighting is not๊ something to explore further.
The problem is that Dragon Ball is all about giant battles between some of the universe's strongest warriors, and these battles look a lot smaller from a first-person perspective. The perspective also makes it hard for fights to match the speed of Dragon Ball without making the p🧸layer suffer motion sickness.
6 Shꦇould: Hack And Slash ꦕ
Dragon Ball and hack and slash might not be the most natural pairing, but there is real potential for them to mix perfectly. The game would need Future Trunks as the protagonist due to his sword-wieldi💛ng abilities. Plus, having the game set within Trunks' time means that the story is less likely to conflict with what happens in the anime.
Similar to the Devil May Cry games, Trunks could use a mix of swordಞ and ranged attacks. Although instead of Dante's guns, the Saiyan would fire energy blasts, and൩ some combos would result in him using his more powerful blast attacks.
5 S🅰houldn't: Sports Gam💛es
Sports games released by non💧-sport franchises tend to come off like cheap cash-ins. The reason for this is because anything you like about a character doesn't get a chance to shine when they're 🍒stuck playing a random sport (unless they happen to be an athlete).
The hilarious baseball episode in Dragon Ball Super has given developers a perfect opportunity for a cheap cash-in, but this should be avoided. A Dragon Ball baseball game is unlikely to be great, and it probably wouldn't sell well anyway, as fans want to se♛e Goku fightin🐈g Frieza, not striking him out.
4 💙 Should: Platform Fighter
Smash Bros. is the king of platform fighters, but titles like Brawlhalla and Rivals of Aether have shown that Nintendo doe🦹sn't own the fighting sub-genre.
Dragon Ball isn't completely new to the genre itself, as some of the franchise's characters have appeared in crossover titles like Jump Ultimate Stars. However, a fully Dragon Ball platform fighter could be fantastic, as the high-speed fights and overall carnage the genre is known for, fits the series perfectly. Also, with the countless traditional that the franchise has released over the years, a platform fighter would finally give fans of Dragon Ball fighting games something different.
3 ♒ Shouldn't: Survival
Survival has been a major theme at times in Dragon Ball. For instance, Trunks trying to survive the Androids or Universe 7 t꧂rying to avoid extermination by winning th🌸e Tournament of Power. In both of those examples, they survive simply by fighting, or at times hiding.
Survival games are about finding resources, crafting, and eating/drinking. This doesn't translate to Dragon Ball as the Z Warriors are super powerful beings who have no use for most of the items traditionally seen in survival games (besides food). Plus, surviv🐟al games rely on you feeling a sense of vulnerability, which would be hard to instill when you're playing as someone who can fire energy blasts and fly. Even Kid Goku could take out any animal he came across, so they wouldn't be𝓡 any danger.
2 🎃 Should: Narrative Adventure 🍃
This will be contentious, but a Telltale-like Dragon Ball game has a lot of potential. The fighting wouldn't be as fluid as in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot or FighterZ, but characte🦹rs like Goku and Vegeta aren't only popular due to their fighting ability, people love their personalitie𓂃s as well.
A well-written narrative adventure would allow those and other personalities to shine, which isn't something previous games have done well. It would also be a great opportunity to create an original story where the player's choices dictate the narrative. And it's not like the fighting would be completely ignored as games like Batman: The Telltale Series sti♌ll managed to fit in some exciting action scenes.
1 🌳 Shouldn't: Battle Royale ♔
