When it comes to movie characters, few are as well-respected on the internet as Shrek. While it's unclear what exactly made DreamWorks' favorite ogre become such an renowned chꦍaracter online, most of us have learned to ꦡaccept it. Many jokes have been developed with the vicious ogre, the most memorable being the famous "Shrek is love. Shrek is life."
Due to how the internet has embraced Shrek and his various films, the characters has slowly i🦄ncreased in popularity since the days where his movie came out. Nowadays, he's more beloved simply because of the various memes that came from him.
Make no mistake, there are tons of memes starring the ogre. Whether the memeꦅs point out how much the internet loves 🐟the character or make a dumb joke about him, there are so many different ones to look at.
It seems that Shrek will never go away. It could even be that the online popularity of the character is what motivated DreamWorks to greenlight the upcoming Shrek 5. Regardless of what DreamWorks is thinking, we will always have memes about🦹 our favorite layered ogre.
Get rea⭕dy to dive into the swamp as we look at 25 of the most hilarious Shrek memes of all time.
25 Onions H☂ave Layers, So Do Ogres
One of Shrek's most memorable lines was when he and Donkey were headed to the Dragon's Keep to rescue Princess Fio🌃na and bring her to Lord Farquaad. The two were talking about food, and Shrek was explaining that ogres were like onions and that they had multiple layers. However, Donkey didn't quite get the reference and instead likened Shrek to cake (then went on to discuss the deliciousness of parfait).
Of course, the reason this meme works so well is that it combines Shrek with the popular Boromir meme from The Lord of the Rings. When you're a big smelly ogre, one does not simply have one l👍ayer. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. You get it.
24 ও 🍬 I Stand Corrected
When you're on the prowl and looking for a man to spend the rest of your life with, it can be a discouraging adventure. Many men today tend to have o𓆉nly their interests at heart and value themselves over other people.
Because of this, it's easy for numerous people to think that perfect men don't exist.
Our argument there would be that perfect men do exist... if you've seen Shrek, that is. His rough demeanor is just to put his loving nature underneath the surface. If you spend time with Sh𒁏rek, we guarantee♎ that you'll be amazed at just how great of a guy he is. He's got great muscles, a nice accent, and a fantastic taste in music. He's the entire package.
23 Beautiful
One trend t♑hat was going around social media was when a photographer ran an experiment where he took pictures of people in their regular setting and then after he called them beautiful. The results were that people, after they were called beautiful, had much larger smiles and took better photos than they normally would (it's a cute experiment).
It's not hard to see that a similar effect would happen with Shrek.
This ogre has isolated himself fo🔯r being scary all of his life. He thinks everyone hates him. Imagine how much happier he would be if someone would just hold his hand and tell 📖him how beautiful he was. Fiona did it, and now the two of them are happily married with a family.
22 Bugs And Mud🍸: Powerful Tools
In Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, we got to see Batman train with the League of Shadows. He learned how to use fear and darkness to manipulate the criminals of Gotham and become the Batman. He became more than just a man to further establish his legacy among the ꧙people of the world. However, Bane quickly came into the picture and reminded Brucღe that he merely adopted the dark. Bane was born in it.
Likewise, Shrek was born in and molded by the 🌄swamp. He lived there for years, learning how to become a more frightening ogre. Characters like Donkey only learned to adopt the swamp. If another ogre were to come into Shrek's swamp, he'd easily be able to fight them for the preservation of his swamp. After a⛎ll, a clean landscape was nothing to him but blinding.
21 Please No
The Despicable Me franchise has been fairly entertaining (with the exception of The Minions Movie). That being said, the third entry in the series was a bit odd, introducing Gru's long lost twin who also happens to be a rich villain. It's a serious plot contrivance that already pulled the story down when compared to the other two entries i❀n the🌌 series.
Many filmmakers are more concerned with continuing a brand to make money than trying to tell original stories.
With the announcement of Shrek 5 on the horizon, there's a chance it could turn into something ridiculous like Despicable Me 3. After all, Shrek the Third still exists and that movie was a dumpster fire. ꦑLet's keep our fingers crossed that DreamWorks knows what they're doing.
20 ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ Definitely Not Hypnotized 𒁃
When Pokémon GO first came out, it was the latest craze to sweep the world. People in every country were firing up their phones and hunting for Pokémon to ad🥂d to their collection. However, because so many people were on the app at the same time, it put a lot of strain on the servers. Niantic had a hard time keeping the game running smoothly when so many people were on at one time.
Because of this, the servers for the game went down quite a bit.
Enter this meme. While ꧑we will admit that the addition of Shrek doesn't do anything for the joke other than add a funny face, that's a classic expression. Furthermore, the pun itself is at least so bad that it's funny. It's better to be Drowzee than get Hypno-tized. We'll see ourselves out.

One of the best things about modern technology is that people can hook up their devices remotely. This, of course, comes in handy when Bluetooth speakers are used in your home. It's all too easy to turn on the speaker, remotely connect your phone, and start playing a piece of music that gets people moving. That said, most people use Bluetooth speakers to play pranks on others𝄹.
We dare you to play the video pictured in this meme in the middle of your house and see how your relatives/roommates respond. Obviously, those wh🍌o don't understand the sheer quality and emotional resonance of Shrek as a cultural icon won't find this entertaining. That said, it's never too late to bring someone in the Brogre family.
18 💯 Balancing The Swam𓆉p
Avengers: Infinity War is quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon, with its release so soon on the horizon. Because of this, there are countless memes of T𓃲hanos circulating the internet. This is all in anticipation of the mo🐭vie. However, some of the memes of the Mad Titan have proposed some changes that could make the movie much better.
This meme imagines a version of the film that makes Shrek the inter-dimensional antagonist as opposed to Thanos.
Just think about the Avengers attacking Thanos on his home moon of Titan, and he comes in and says, "What are you doing in my swamp?" That would arguably garner a much better crowd response than just the Mad Titan coming in and punching Iron Man. Before you lose your mind, we're clear🍒ly being sarcastic.
17 🐷 ജ Page Turners They Are Not
When we discuss how important Shrek has become to the online community, we're not joking. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who tell their own Shrek stories, make their own Shrek videos, and play new Shrek games. However, the most dedicated Shrek fans have created versions of the ogre lore, whether canonically related to the Shrek franchise or something entirely original.
Once again, those who do not understand the importance of the layered ogre would often mock those who write about him. If those pages of the Shrek lore were to be burned, that's where we would have the same reaction of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi when Yoda burned down the "sacred texts."
16 🌌 Can't Catch Him
Admittedly, this joke is probably one of the least funny ones. A lot of Shrek memes play with puns based on the word "ogre" or "Shrek." With that in mind, combining two of the best meme franchises in history (SpongeBob SquarePants and Shrek)𒊎 is always a win in our book, an🅰d that's why we included this one on our list.
Plankton on the robot Krabby Patty stating that he was shifting into "maximum overdrive" has already become a meme in its own right (especially for college students). Instead, turning the word into "ogredrive" and add💃ing a picture of Shrek is much more effꦯective and philosophical. The phrasing along with Shrek's face is just so meaningful that it moves us to tears.
