If you grew up in the nineties, chances are you'll know of Gex, a series of games featuring a wise-cracking Gecko that's a spoof of the early James Bond movies. For a while, Gex has been languishing in the past despite having a fairly sizable cult following, with many convinced that his unique brand of humor was the reason as to why he's been overlooked for potential remasters, but it now seems like he's coming back in a big way.Announced during this year's Limited Run Games Showcase, the Gex Trilogy will bring the first three games to modern systems for the very first time. The Gex Trilogy includes the original Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko and will be available on pretty much all platforms including Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. It's worth noting that it seems like these are just straight ports rather than remasters of any kind, but any new Gex content in 2023 will surely make fans of the series jump for joy.
Unfortunately, a release date doesn't seem to have been shared just yet, but Limited Run promises that it share some more details soon. We can also assume, given that it's Limited Run behind the title, that physical copies are probably going to be a🐬vailable too, although there's no confirmed information on that yet either. In any case, it's nice to see Gex back in the spotlight once again and much more 🉐accessible to boot.Limited Run's showcase was chock full of older properties getting a new lease on life. Not only was the Gex Trilogy announced, but seminal point and click horror title Clock Tower was also revealed to be getting a🔜 remaster, which will launch at some point next year. Just like 𝓰the Gex Trilogy, this will be the f﷽irst time the title has been made readily available on modern consoles, and it will be launching both digitally and physically in 2024.
Other big announcements that Limited Run made during the show include a port of cult PlayStation platformer Tomba, a previously cancelled Shantae game for the GameBoy called Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, and a surprise physical release for Chicory: A Colorful Tale, one of 2021♊'s best, adorable, and most overlooked indie games. If you've played it, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
