Despite some concern over the game's launch being so close to The Last of Us Part 2, Sucker Punch's new IP, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ghost of Tsushima, has gone on to break 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sony sales records. First announced back in 2017 at Paris Games week, Ghost of Tsushima is the last major Sony first party game set to release in 2020. Coming off their previous game, InFamous Second Son and the expansion First Light, the team decided to take♚ a risk in starting a new IP set during the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima rather than continue with their establi🍷shed superhero franchise.
In the first three days of its release, Ghost of Tsushima has managed to sell 2.4 million copies worldwide. This breaks the record, previously held by Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn, for the fastest selling new IP from a Sony first party studio. On top of that, it is also the fastest selling game ever released by developer Sucker Punch. Sony's was quick to celebrate the milestone stating, "Congratulations @SuckerPunchProd, and thank you to fanཧs around the world for tak﷽ing part in Jin's journey."
In comparison, Horizon Zero Dawn sold 2.6 million units in the first two weeks. When stacked up against the best established Sony IP, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Last of Us Part 2 sold an astounding 4 million in the first three days, with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:God of War not terribly far behind at 3.1 million in three days. While not quite at the level of those giants, Ghost of Tsushima has done exceptionall🐻y well for a new franchise released at the tail end of the console generation.
Reviews of the game were not overwhelmingly positive, yet strong enough to bring a lot of attention and excitement for an open world game set in a historic Japanese setting. There was some trepidation that the delays of Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 💟ending up with the two releasing so close together would diminish interest in the former. However, it appears that the game benefited from a relative lack of competition around its final launch date.
With such a strong sales record, it only seems natural that Sony and Sucker Punch are at least considering making a future installment for Ghost of Tsushima. While that may take a while to come ꦿto be, if ever, a sequel could be even m꧅ore impressive running on new hardware.
