just got a surprise roguelike DLC called Valhalla, and already fans are pushing through the trials to unearth all of the secrets and goodies littered along its path. Some of these are ripped right from Kratos' past, as we reunite with Helios and 🧜the Blade of Olympus, but👍 more than that, the god slayer himself 𓆏can don a classic look.
As shared by thats4thebirds on the game's subreddit, this new skin makes Kratos look a lot you🎃nger, washing away the wrinkles and bushy beard as his red tattoos are made brighter, the ash of his dead family still freshly plastered on his skin. You can use this look in the base game, which might be a bit weird next to a teenage Atreus, but nostalgia triumphs.
We haven't seen young Kratos in ten years, with his last appearance being in Ascension. Five years after that, the scourge of Sparta was reimagined as a gruffer, older father.
There's a pretty cool reason for the young Kratos skin that goes beyond calling back to the series' roots. But if you don't wanna find out why yet, don't scroll past the Reddit embed below. We're jumping into Valhalla spoiler territory.
Kratos bumps into his younger self sitting on a throne, cockily waiting. Since we're frolicking in the blood-soaked flowers of his youth, it only makes sense that the path would eventually lead to that warrior of old who would sooner rip out a god's throat than stay for a chit-chat. Even if ripping out that god's throat would usher in the apocalypse. He was young, cut him some slack.
You don't fight him and he doesn't talk back, but an older, wiser Kratos gets to look directly at his younger self and the seething disappointment is palpable. Much of Ragnarok was about overcoming that side of himself, so to stare face-to-face with who he once was is a bittersweet ending to his saga.
Once you have the skin from getting through Valhalla, it's easy enough to switch between it and older Kratos in the main game. All you have to do is go into the menu and press R3. Old, young, old, young, snip snap, snip snap.
You can even use it in an ♊existing 💖save file. As thats4thebirds explained, the skin can be found in a chest at the blacksmiths, right next to the conspicuous pile of anti-aging cream.
