A recent Goodman Games’ post on the EN World forums extended an invitation to watch their Talking TSR old-school Dungeons & Dragons show. Talking TSR discusses the modules and gaming products originating from Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. (TSR), the parent company of the D&D roleplaying game. The shoไw currently airs on the on Sunday ni🔥ghts at 10 pm EST.
According to the announcement post, examines those older TSR-produced D&D items many of us grew up playing back in the 1980s in both a nostalgic and educational light. Additionally, the show reviews classic tabletop roleplaying game concepts and how they could be applied to current 5th edition play. Talking TSR topics covered also include player and DM/GM techniques, and pay particular attention to Goodman Games’ Original Adventures Reincarnated (OAR) line, and in how the company converts old D&D modules into 5th edition adventures.
Talking TSR is hosted by Goodman Games’ Chris Doyle (OAR2: The Isle of Dread) and Rick Maffei (Monstercology: Orcs), who have over 40 years of combined rol෴eplaying game writing and publishing experience. After the shows air on Twitch, they are archived on the , where there are as of this writing already four Talking TSR episodes published.
The first episode of Talking TSR was posted back on June 19, 2020, which means they’ve been doing the show for a cou💫ple of months now. Don’t feel alonไe or left out if you’re in the audience with those of us who are just now learning about the show from the EN World post. Schedule-wise, Doyle and Maffei aim to broadcast the show on Sunday nights about every three weeks, with a bi-monthly broadcast schedule planned in the future.
In Talking TSR - Episode 1, Doyle and Maffei introduce the show and its purpose, introduce themselves and give a bit of their backstory, then list and discuss their top five classic module series picks of all time. The second episode has the hosts talking about their favorite D&D 3rd edition Dungeon Crawl Classics modules. Episode three focuses on The Isle of Dread (X1) from the D&D Expert Set. And in the fourth and most recent episode, Doyle and Maffei fondly remember and share their memories from p⛎ast GenCon events.
