"This is very much not designed as a game-as-service," Marty told IGN. "There is an ability tree, which is different for each🎃 of the characters, and then there's gear that you craft - and so choices that you're going to be making - but that does not mean that this is a game-as-service."

That's pretty unambiguous. Although we all originally thou𒁃ght that Gotham Knights was going to be just another games-as-a-service title, this is concrete 🍒confirmation that that's simply not the case.

In related news, it was also recently revealed that Gotham Knights will be akin to othဣer contemporaryꦑ third-person action brawlers. This may seem obvious at face value, especially if you've seen the gameplay reveal from last week's DC FanDome - however, when you read between the lines, this phrasing indicates a departure from the beloved, free-flowing combat of the illustrious Batman: Arkham seriꦫes.

It makes sense - this is a Batman game without Batman, sort of, so it needs to firmly establish itself as its own unique entity. Whether or no෴t that ambition pays off is impossible to tell until Gotham Knights launches for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
