Who doesn’t love a good prom🃏otional cereal? It’s one of the strangest, yet most delicious ways to advertise something. And it looks like everyone’s (or least a very specific section of the internet’s) favorite blue hedgehog is the latest to be a part of your balanced breakfast.
According to a post on the DisFunko Facebook group, is getting a new breakfast cereal as part of a new line of Funko branded cereals. Funko is of course the purveyor of the weird little dolls you find in GameStops, and various loot crate services. Now it looks like t🅺hey want to get you to swallow some sugary oat rin🐻gs as well.
The Sonic cereal looks to be made up of a bunch of blue, presumably sugary rings. At this point we don’t know whether the blue color is indicative of the flavor or not, but it’ll be interesting to see what kind of gastro-intestinal magic that food coloring will do to the people who eat it. In a classic cereal move, it also comes with a prize in the box, as you’ll get a Funko Sonic figure as well. Which is nice, except the Sonic figure is kind of creepy🔯. He seriously looks like he’s staring deep into your soul.
The Sonic cereal is set to be part of Funko’s next line of cereals, which are also all based on pop culture properties. Sonic joins the other cereals that have already been released, which includes Cuphead, Megaman, Wonder Woman, Five Nights At Freddy’s, Elvira, Elf, Pac-Man, and for some reason, The Golden Girls. Yes, Funko made a Golden Girls cereal, and someꦑhow there aren't any Blanche Devere🌳aux shaped marshmallows. What a travesty.
Sonic isn’t the first video game character to get their own cereal. Video game cereals have been rather prolific, featuring characters like Mario, Donkey Kong, the aforementioned Pac-Man, Pikachu and a whole bunch of Pokemon, and most 🍸recently Lucio’s Lucio-Oh’s. Heck Sonic himself had a cereal back in the 🎉90s.
It’s likely that this cereal was intended to be used as a promotional tool for the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie. With tha💧t film being delayed to make Sonic’s face less terrifying, the cereal 𒐪will probably come out long before the mo🍸vie does.
The cereal is going to be exclusively available at Gamestop, which is not usually a place you'd expect to find a cereal aisle. So if you were upset about not getting to see Jim Carrey hamming it up against an otherworldly blue hedgehog with human teeth this year, at least you can still make Sonic part of your morning routine.
Who knows, maybe if this takes off we’ll get a whole slew of cereals based on characters from the Sonic universe. After all, who 𓆏doesn’t want a Big The Cat cereal?
