Gran's Normal Attacks

Reginleiv

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran using his Reginleiv-2

⬇️↘️➡️ + L/M/H

This is Gran's Hadouken equivalent. You want to use the light version when you are farther away, as it has fast startup, but you never want to use the light version when you are close, as even on hit you will be unsafe. That's bad!

The heavy version, on the other hand, is safe on block. Listen closely, as this is extremely important. Gran has a number of attacks that are very unsafe on block, but that can be canceled into a special. That means that Gran can pressure with those unsafe attacks, and if they are blocked, he can ca𝔍ncel into the heavy version of his fireball and be completely safe. Turning a situation where he would be guaranteed to be hit into a situation where he can still keep attacking. That is very good!

Rising Sword

➡️⬇️↘️ + L/M/H

This is a classic invincible reversal. Well, the Medium and Heavy versions are, at least. The light version is the fastest, but the riskiest. If you have been knocked down, and your opponent is attempting to meaty you, use Gran's Dragon Punch to punish them.

Overdrive Surge

⬇️↙️⬅️ + L/M/H

This is really two moves in one. The light version is a slash that can be comboed into the medium version. It is relatively quick, and it is safe on block at any distance. However, you don't get much off of it.

The medium and heavy versions are affectionately known as "the boot"; you can use this attack to quickly close the distance between you and your opponent. The medium version travels a touch farther than mid-screen, while the heavy version travels a little farther still. Typically, you want to approach using the medium version. This attack is safe if spaced correctly. However, if you do any version of it while you are close to your opponent, and it is blocked, you will be punished greatly. This is an important move, b🍒ut you need to use it thoughtfully.

Power Raise

U

Gran's unique attack is a sword slash that he can charge. You can use this to end an autocombo. What is most interesting about this move is that you can store a charge. So, if you have a down moment, you can hold the unique button, get a charge in, and then store it by pressing any other button. Each charge does more damage, and is safer. The fully charged version is invincible and causes a wall balance.

Most Useful Normal Attacks

T🍌hese are the non-special attacks in your arsenal that you want to pay🎉 extra close attention to.

Dash + Light

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran Dashing Light

The dashing light is universally one of the most potent tools across the cast. While the range is short, it is extremely safe, and if you hit you 🌌can combo into your light auto-combo.

Dash + Medium

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran Dashing medium

The dashing medium is universally a tripping attack for every character in the cast. It is also Gran's rangiest low attack. It leads to a hard knockdown.

Far. Medium Attack and Far. Heavy Attack

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran using his heavy slash

These attacks more or less serve the same purpose. They are Gran's best attacks to use in the mid-range. If you hit with them, you can give your opponent the boot and land a combo. The big difference is that the medium hits a little farther away and is safer on block, while the heavy does a little more damage and can combo into attacks that the medium cannot.

Cr. Light

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran using his croushing light attack

The Cr. Light is your ONLY low attack that will lead into a combo. So, even though its range is pretty mediocre, it is still very important for catching opponents when they aren't blocking low (typically when they are walking forward or backward).

Cr. Heavy

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran using his crouching heavy attack

The Cr. Heavy is your Anti-Air normal. This would be more crucial in another fighting ga𝐆me without the Simple Input system (as your reversal is just a button press away), but it is still good to know what your best anti-air normal is.

J. Unique

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran using his jumping unique attack

This attack will hit in front or behind your opponent depending on when you press it. Making is a pretty tricky attack to block. Or at least it would be if there wasn't a block button. Still, you will likely catch people with this on occasion, as most people aren't using the block button at all times. Since it hits so far behind Gran it will also catch characters running under you.

You will want to hit this button pretty high in the🥀 air.

General Strategy Overview For Gran

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran using his super attack

With Gran, you are going to throw your light Reginleiv (that's your fireball) at your opponent to help you get within the mid-range. Then, once you do, you are going to look to start landing the Medium Overdrive Surge attack. If you see your opponent whiff a button, give 'em the boot. However, as long as you don't walk into an attack, you will be fine, as it is safe on block at the mid-range distance.

Once you are up close you will want to start fighting your opponent from a character length away. You will harass them with your far medium and far heavy attack. Try to catch them mashing a light or trying to throw you. The best way to do this is to keep advancing a small amount and then backing away. Once you hit, convert into a heavy version of yo﷽ur Overdrive Surge, this will bounce your opponent off of the wall and give you a chance to land a combo on them.

For an easy beginner combo, just follow the Overdrive Surge off with an autocombo and end it with Gran's medium Rising Sword.

Light > Light > Light, Heavy Overdrive Surge, Light > Light > Light, Medium Rising Sword

However, if you have a FULLY CHARGED Power Raise, yoܫu can replace that final Medium Rising Sword for that Power R❀aise. This will cause them to bounce off the wall, at which point you can use the Ultimate Skill version of the Rising Sword for a hefty amount of damage.

Light > Light > Light, Heavy Overdrive Surge, Light > Light > Light, Power Raise, Ultimate Skill Rising Sword

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, Gran landing a fireball from a distance

When you are dancing in and out of range, throw in the odd jumping unique attack. This🧸 is a fantastic aerial normal, and will certainly catch your opponent snoozing on occasion. If you hit them with it, land the autocombo into the heavy Overdrive Surge, into the auto-combo, and ending with the medium Rising Sword.

Finally, the third integral piece of your strategy will be the crouching light kick. When you have your opponent pressured, and are already ducking in and out of range, and occasionally landing your jumping unique attack, you will also want to add in𒐪 the crouching light attack. This way, if they are too focused on stand blocking,ꩵ you will clip their toes, which will lead into a combo. Add in a walk-up-throw here and there, and you will have a pretty good idea about how you use Gran to dismantle your opponents!
