When you wake up in a suburban backyard the size of an ant, it’s hard to have time to appreciate the little things. After all, it’s a hostile world that often has you fighting for your life against ferocious spiders and explosive bombardier beetles. But when you take a break from all the insect slaying, Obsidian’s Grounded actually packs a lot of cool details behind its m♔iꦯniaturized characters.
A lot of this lore is only told through collectibles, occasional voice lines or environmental elements in the backyard. With so much lore waiting to be found, it's easy to miss out on details about your favorite characters.
10 Dr. Tully Is The Only Character That Enjoys Brussels Sprouts⛄
As the genius scientist behind 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grounded’s pivotal shrinking technology, Dr. Wendell Tully is more than a little eccentric. A running gag through💃out the game is that none of the characters are particularly fond of Brussels Sprouts. Peter even has a dedicat🍌ed voice line comparing eating raw bug meat to his mother’s Brussels sprout recipe.
As revealed by collectible voice logs, Dr. Tully is the only member of his family ♈who enjoys eating th𝓰e green buds. In fact, his enjoyment for Brussels sprouts is what leaves him to develop the Muscle Sprouts plant that can be found in the pond lab.
9 Willow Has 🥃Had Enough Of The Puns
Willow is one of the four teen protagonists that you can choose whe🦩n starting a game. Of the four, she is the most reserved and sarcastic.
Unfortunately for Willow Branch, the overt pun in her name is one that she is well aware of. Willow has a voice line where she sarcastically expresses ann𝓀oyance at her name. Since she’s stuck in a backyard full of greenery, the opportunities for jokes are endless.
8 🐽 Peter Has A Crush On Willow
With his nervous personality and oversized glasses, Peter embodies the role of the group's archetypal nerd. When talking with the other characters, his voice lines often make reference to board games, videogames, and fantasy. But Peter also harbors a not-so-secret crush on his fellow backyard adventurer Willow.
When Peter talks with Willow, his voice lines are noticeably more shy. He also endearingly attempts to combine nerd trivia with flirting, although his execution could definitely use some work. Fortunately for Peter, surviving the onslaught of insects takes' precedence over any romantic notions.
7 The Four Proꩵtagonists Never Actually Met Before
During your course of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:adventuring through hedge walls, spider dens, and a blistering hot sandbox, you’ll notice the chemistry that the characters have with each other. They banter with each other frequently, and most in-game actions have an associated voice line between characters. Given their friendship, it's easy to overlook that the only tie the protagonists had before the events of the game was that they went to the same high school.
As you discover more of the story, it becomes clear that the four unl𝓰ikely heroes havꦐe only become connected due to shared circumstances, instead of prior friendship.
6 🌸 Peter Has Experience As A 💮Scout
Before the events of the gam🃏e, Peter was a member of a scout troop that taught him basic survival skills such as navigation and water purification. Compared to the rest of the protagonists, Peter is the most prepared for the shrunken situation they have found themselves in. It really is a testament to the phrase, "One can never be too prepared."
As you travel through the backyard collecting resources and discovering locations, you will occasionally hear Peter mentioning the various things that he’s 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:learned from scout training.
5 BURG.L’s Original Purpos﷽e
BURG.L is the amnesiac robot that helps you along your journey by providing crafting recipes and advancing the story. It is one of the few allies that you’ll encounter during your journey, and hearing its optimistic v༒oice will often bring relief after dodging the Wolf spiders that lurk outside its lab. Although itᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ refers to itself as Dr.Tully’s research assistant, BURG.L was not originally designed for such scientific pursuits.
In a collectible voice log, Dr. Tully mentions that BURG.L was originally a burger-flipping robot named “𒊎Burger Lad.” Going from a burger flipper to the Acting Science Manager of Ominent’s research project is a pretty big upgrade.
4 🐬 Max Doesn’t Have Fa𒅌ith In Computers
Max is the de facto leader of the four backyard buddies. His personality is confident, relaxed, and he has𓄧 aspirations of becoming a celebrity one day. However, despite his self-assured confidence, Max doesn’t believe in a computerized future. Peter has a voice line where he shares information regarding Dr. Tully’s computer experiments. If Max is in the party, he res꧙ponds sarcastically that computers won’t catch on like Peter thinks they will.
Since the game ta﷽kes place in the 1990s, his belief seems more grounded in reality. Alth𒀰ough, in hindsight, it’s definitely a silly take on the future.
3 🔥 Nobody Calls Her Ally 🎃
Ally “Hoops” Nguyen is the energetic athlete of the group, and her happy-go-lucky nature means that she almost never complains about her shrunken predicament. She earned her nickname from the basketball phrase “alley-oop,” and it certainly stuck. Hoops is almos🐬t never referred to as Ally by anyone in the entire game, aside from the character selection screen.
Peter, Max and Willow collectively cꦯall her Hoops, even Dr. Tully, who can be♔ seen as an authority figure to the group, refers to Ally only by her nickname. It’s an interesting story decision and helps reinforce her athletic character identity.
2 Dr. Tully Is A Metaphor For Obsession 🎃
You learn through collectible audio logs that Dr. Tully isn&r🍒squo;t the greatest family man. He devotes all of his time to working on his shrinking technology, and ultimately drives away his wife and kids. You can even fin꧟d Mrs. Tully’s wedding ring at the bottom of the koi pond after she removed it in anger.
His character’s spiral into increasingly reckless scientific pursuits at the cost of those he loves becomes a metaphor for the dangers of obsession. Tully r𝔍epresents unchecked ambition, and his role in the story is more tragic than as initiaဣl comic relief would suggest.
1 The Fifth𓂃 Member Of The Tully Family
The Tullys are made ⛦up of Dr.Tully, his wife Trudy, and their two children, Thor and Sarah. As revealed in audio logs and a family portrait, the Tullys actually had a furry fifth family member. Dan Hamster III was the wide-eyed pet of Thor and Sarah. Also, as his name suggests, he is the third bearer of the Dan Hamster namesake. Dan had a quick life from 1986 to 1987, and his gravestone can be found in the southwest section of the map along with his skeleton.
Unfortunately, Dan’s grave has become infested with an 🔥Orb Weaver spider nest. So if you want to pay your respects (and collect the Syndrome SCA.B resting on his tooth), you will need to battle your way through several spiders.
