Funnily enough, this is something that we haven’t experienced over and over again: Groundhog Day is getting a sequel, but it’s not going to be a movie. It’s going to be a☂ video game.

Now, we’re all familiar with Groundhog Day. The much-beloved comedy stars Bill Murray as Phil Connors, a weatherman who becomes trapped in a time loop while reporting on the annual Groundhog Day happenings in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Whether you’reꦦ a fan of Bill Murray, Sonny & Cher or groundhogs (and with their adorable furry faces, who wouldn’t be?), the𓄧re’s something for everyone right here.

We could all use a little more Groundhog Day in our lives, yet it’s been over fifteen years since the movie’s February 1993 release. Fortunately, where moviemakers have failed to bring us a sequel, games developers have decided to right this terrible wrong. Here comes an official follow-up coming to a completely different form of media. That’s right. Implausible as the whole concept may be, Like Father Like Son centers around the misadventures of Phil Connors Jr., the hapless son of the protago🐷nist of the original movie. Youꦓ probably see where this is going already, but he falls into the exact same Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania time loop as his father before him.

When it comes to a sequel, Like Father Like Son is probably in good hands. The developers are Tequila Works, who previously brought us The Sexy Brutale. If you’ve ever played through that title, you’ll know that it focuses around the whole idea of time loops too; tasking the player with trying to prevent the unfortunate demises of fellow partygoers. You do this by repeating the same 12-hour time period, learning more about events and how they 🌌can be changed.

Back in Groundhog Day, though, Like Father Like Son is shaping up to be a VR experience like no other. reports that it’s coming to PlayStation VR and other VR platforms later in 2019, offering over eight houღrs of puzzling and shonky-narrative storytelling.

It also promises to offer all the snark and humor of the movie, which is sure to be app๊♈ealing to its many fans.
