Few games give you the sense of accomplishment and freedom that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grand Theft Auto 5 provides. You can go from a lowly failed bank robber to the ruler of your own criminal empire. Along th🌸e way you have to build up your resources, complete missions, and remove threats.

This has led to an interesting debate about whether GTA 5 should be considered an RPG, ꧙despite it primarily being a shooter mixed with a massive sandbox. Here are some of the cases made arguingღ that it’s an RPG and some explaining why it isn’t one.

Updated On February 22, 2021, By Jason Wojnar: Grand Theft Auto 5 has basically not left the conversation since its release in 2013. This is probably partly why we have yet to see a Grand Theft Auto 6. Why make a sequel if the current game is still generating so much money? Grand Theft Auto Online is extremely successful and ever-expanding, after all. We ultimately decided to return to this list and add several more entries, all of them having to do with the online component. People go back and forth on whether to consider it an MMO.

14 RPG: The Gameplay Lo𓄧op Of Grand Theft Auto Online

GTA Online 2021

Where many online games encourage players to keep jumping back into matches and levels to increase their battle pass, Grand Theft Auto Online adds another layer to the equation. Everything players do both generates income and requires money to access. While competitive modes exist, most people engage with the cooperative activities, which they sometimes run several times over to gain as much money as possible and buy new goodies, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:much like an MMORPG.

13 Not An RPG: Competitive Modes Ar⭕e Skill Based 🐎

While equipment, stats, and gear play a small part in the competitive scene, the ultimate decider of who wins is pure skill. Sure, the guns you bring into a match are important, but the same is true of shooters like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Call of Duty and Battlefield, and those are decidedly not RPGs. There is a meta you have to pay attention to for an advantage, but it is not the same you'd find in an MMO or a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon game. A🅘dditionally, many competitive modes have the more traditional system of finding weapons and health on the map.

12 RPG: You Get To Live In Los Santos 🎐

Grand Theft Auto Online is unique for letting players jump into Los Santos like they were playing a single-player campaign. As they earn more money, they buy property, vehicles, and other goodies to make a bigger mark on the city. Jobs and missions can all be accessed from the open-world playground instead of a menu. This makes it feel infinitely more like an RPG than, for example, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Grand Theft Auto 4's online component.

11 ﷽ Not An RPG: Only 30 Players On A Server 😼

While Grand Thet🍌 Auto Online is certainly comparable to an MMO, it ultimately falls short of being one in a few areas. Mainly, any given server can only have up to thirty people.

In comparison, a server in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 14 can handle up to 5,000 players simultaneously. It wᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚould be madness to have that many people inside Los Santos, but we can definitely imagine up to one hundred existing without becoming too cluttered. With only thirty, it is nothing more than a glorified hub.

10 RPG: Diverse Character Customization 🌄

While you are locked into one of three playable characters you 𒀰do have quite a few options for customizing their appearance. You can change their outfits, style their hair a different way, or even visit a tattoo shop to get some sweet inks.

Admittedly, this isn’t as vast as the level of customization in games like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Skyrim or Fallout give you, but it certainly offers more variety than an RPG like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Breath of the Wild. Bﷺecause of this, character customization that serves no other purpose than aesthetics, GTA 5 can be considered an RPG.

9 𓆉 NOT AN RPG: No Complex G⛄ear

You do have the ability to switch out gear, but it’s all very basic. The t-shirts, jackets, hoodies, a꧒nd masks are purely aesthetic. There are no improvements or bonus t𒈔o any stats and they certainly don’t grant unique abilities.

Even in multiplayer, the helmets and armor y🐲ou can buy are very simple and pedestrian at best. There are no helmets specifically resistant to exp🎶losions and none of the armor gives you a boost to your health bar. These kinds of stat boosting items are considered standard for most RPGs and GTA 5 doesn’t have them.

8 🧜 RPG: There Are Stats

Each character in GTA 5 has stats that improve their abilities. Stamina allows the character to run/swim farther before getting wind♚ed, Strength helps you out in a fist fight and Flying will keep you in the air when using aircraft.

These stats improve over time by performing specific activities or in the case of the Special stat, d𝔍oing impressive things in the game. T꧃his creates a leveling up mechanic in the game and rewards you for grinding now and then.

7 ꧟ NOT AN RPG: Stats Aren’t Important

While there are stats in the game they aren’t critical to success. RPGs typically require you to level up your character, upgrade proficiencies, or grind stats up to a certain point toಞ defeat enemies and conquer bosses. This is not the case in GTA 5.

Sure, it’s convenient to have improved stats, but stronger stats are never required to defeat anyone or survive hostile encounters. You could have everything maxed or never level up anything, and you’re still just as capable of beating the game with lit๊tle if any difference in difficulty.

6 RPG: The Variety Of Gear ♕ ꧃

There are a lot of things you can buy in this game. There are do🎶zens of clothing items, hundreds of cars, a wide variety of weapons. Traditional shooters or action-based games give you a handful of items you become skilled with, but GTA 5 dumps a truckload into the world for you to find, unlock and buy.

Most of it isn’t necessary to complete the game or unlock certain levels. What co🎃lor of suit you have on doesn’t matter and any shotgun will do the trick. Coincidentally, this horde of nonessential items is something found almost ☂exclusively in RPGs.

5 NOT AN RPG: Zeꦰro Perks ✤

E𒆙ach character is better at cer♎tain tasks, but this is a result of having a higher stat or two. When you spend some time grinding levels with each character, there’s functionally no difference between having Michael or Trevor fly a plane.

This is because there are no unique perks specific to the playable characters. For example, Franklin doesn’t have a special bonus when 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:stealing cars and Michael doesn’t have an intimidation ability that helps him when robbing banksℱ. Sure, they have special abilities, but for the most part they're too general to lend themselves to a specific✨ class or role.
