With the game being remastered as part of the GTA Remastered Trilogy, veterans and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:beginners alike will hop into : Vice City and see some 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:iconic locations in the GTA trilogy. This also means paying a visit to each game's respective main characters and in Vice City's case, that character is Tommy Vercetti.
Vercetti, voiced by Goodfellas lead actor Ray Liotta, is arguably the best protagonist in the series and is a fan-favorite character as well. There is plenty to love about the ambitious gangster and a lot to him that fans may have never noticed. Whether it be within Vice City or other GTA games, ther🌱e is a lot to know about Tommy that most people may have never noticed.
His Age
Tommy Vercetti's age is never really stated in-game but it can be assumed that he is probably in his 30s. As it turns out though, his exact age was actually given in the BradyGames guide for GTA: Vice City, a guide that was actually officially endorsed by Games themselves.
The guide states that Tommy is 35 years old. With Vice City being set in 1986, that would make his birth year 1951. It's odd to think, but if Tommy were still alive today, that would make 70 years old. It's probably a sure bet that he can still kick butt though, even at that old age.
Tommy Is Still The Kingpin Of Vice City Into The 21st Century
Speaking of Tommy still kicking it, there is evidence to suggest that Tommy was still the kingpin of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Vice City as recently as 2002. The evidence surprisingly lies in a now-defunct real-world website that was supposedly run by Kent Paul, a character in the game, Kent Paul's 80s Nostalgia Zone.
The website was a promotional website for Vice City that has Kent Paul talking about 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the era the game is set in, the 1980s. Under the list of social problems Paul will actually reference Tommy by saying, "see Tom, I didn't mention your name, nowhere." This seems to imply that Tommy was still alive and active in 2002 as Paul posts several blog updates dated in that year.
Tommy Could Be Dead
Maybe at some point after this though, Tommy at one point did in fact die, if this 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Easter egg in GTA 4 is anything to go by. In a subway station in Bohan, there is graffiti on the wall that references several PS2 GTA characters, such as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:San Andreas' CJ, and Tommy is one such character.
Tommy's name is mentioned in a sentence towards the bottom of the graffiti. The sentence reads "remember Tommy u r still my hero." The sentence seems to imply that Tommy and many of the other PS2 era protagonists are actually dead. Hopefully that isn't the case, but you never know.
Tommy Originally Wanted To Work In A Printing Shop
Tommy Vercetti didn't exactly want to be a gangster when he was younger, but life has an odd sense of humor. When he was younger, he too wanted to work in a print shop like his father.
This is shown during the Print Works missions in Vice City when Tommy examines one of the printing presses. He describes how as a kid he helped his dad clean the rollers of the machines and wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. Things didn't work out though, and life had different plans for Tommy Vercetti.
His Relationship With Ken Rosenberg Worsened After Vice City
During the events of Vice City, Tommy becomes close friends with struggling lawyer Ken Rosenberg, who has mob ties. Ken helps Tommy rise to the top in Vice City and the t🦹wo are seemingly close friends by the end of the g꧒ame. Unfortunately, Ken becomes a cocaine addict during the game and it becomes worse in between Vice City and San Andreas.
Tommy would end up sending him to rehab on the west coast. After Ken recovers𝓀, he tries to get into contact with Tommy but his secretary answers instead, meaning Tommy has seemingly blacklisted him and considers him a liability — a sad end to what at one point look𒉰ed like the start of a beautiful business relationship
Tommy's Supposed Mistreatment of Lance Causes His Betrayal
In the beginning of Vice City, Tommy Vercetti meets another aspiring gangster in the form of Lance Vance. The two have different ideas as to how to run their organization but seem to be loyal to one another. Tommy, though, constantly busts on Lance to the point that Lance begins to believe Tommy 💃is cutting him out of the action.
This is why, in the game's climax, he betrays Tommy and allies himself with Sonny Forelli, saying "I sold you out!" to Tommy with a voice full of hatred. It was this supposed mistreatment on Tommy's part that would lead to Lance selling Tommy out.
He Has A Lot In Common With Scarface's Tony Montana
From its 1980s Miami-inspired setting to its tone and themes, it's clear that GTA: Vice City took a lot of inspiration from the movie Scarface. That includes taking inspiration from that movie's protagonist, Tony Montana, and putting it into Tommy Vercetti's character and story. The two gangsters have a lot in common as a result.
Both were exiled from their original homes to a Miami-esque setting, both rose to the top through committing acts, both have short tempers and both took over their employer's empire. Tommy does not become addicted to cocaine like Tony did though, and had a happier ending for himself than Tony's.
Tommy Bears A Resemblance To Mr. Blonde From Reservoir Dogs
On top of taking inspiration from Scarface, V🍬ice City and GTA, in general, take a lot of inspiration 🎐from other crime movies such as Reservoir Dogs. In fact, Tommy Vercetti actually bears somewhat of a resemblance to the character Mr. Blonde from the movie.
Both have black hair that is combed up in a similar fashion to eac✃h other and they both even have a similar backstory to each other: both are recently released prisoners who🀅 loyally served time for their family. They also both go by a "Mr." alias as Tommy is called Mr. Teal during the hitman missions in Vice City.
His Story Bears Similarities To Real Mobster Joseph "Joe Dogs" Iannuzzi's
It's not just movies Rockstar takes inspiration from when making GTA games but real life as well. Tommy Vercetti's story bears many similarities to that of real-life mobster Joseph Iannuzzi who also went by the nickname "Joe Dogs."
Iannuzzi was a mobster working for mob boss Tommy Argo and was sent to Florida in the 80s to be a representative of his boss's interests, similar to how Sonny sends Tommy down to Vice City, which is also in Florida. Also, like Sonny and Tommy's relationship, Iannuzzi and Argo's relationship deteriorated over a large amount of money after Iannuzzi fled Florida with Argo's money. Unlike Tommy though, Iannuzzi would become an FBI informant after his boss almost beat him to death.
Tommy Does Not Say The F-Word At All
One thing all the speaking protagonists have in common is that they all have a potty mouth of some kind. Tommy is no exception to this rule but unlike the other GTA protagonists🐎 that would follow him, he does not say the F-word.
As short-tempered and prone to violence as Tommy Vercetti is, he has enough restraint in him to not say the F-word at all. It's nice to see that in the midst of all the crime, sex, and violence in GTA, there is a moral to never curse and to compose yourself the way good old Tommy Vercetti does.
