Every movie studio wants a video game it can turn into a film right now. On the flip side, every video game studio wants a superhero, or a few of them, it can put into a game. That's why the Marvel video game slate, in particular, is loaded at present. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Iron Man, and a Black Panther/Captain America World Warꦛ 2 team-up game just to name the ones we actually know about. All of them, especially that last one, have hopefully been watching what has come before them very closely, and hopefully, they all appreciate the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Guardians of the Galaxy game more than I feel it was appreciated when it ღlaunched.

On paper, superhero fans have been spoiled when it comes to team-up games over the last few years. In reality, Eidos Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy was the only one that really delivered, although a special shout out to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Midnight Suns before we move on. Seriously, more of you need to play that, so we can continue to have nice things. Back to Guardians, and I recall some people, including myself, being disappointed when it was revealed Star-Lord would be its only playable character. Surely the whole point of including multiple heroes in a single game is so you can choose which one of them you want to be, or at the very least unlock access to each 𝄹of them as you progress through the game? I want to be Drax, damn it!

In hindsight, neither I nor anyone else who had been playing 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Marvel's Avengers for the year prior should have doubted the Guardians devs' decision to focus on one hero and have the rest of the characters play off of them. Even by the time Guardians of the Galaxy launched, just 13 months into what was supposed to be a years-long venture for the video game versions of the Avengers, it was evident it wasn't going to be the project 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Crystal Dynamics envisioned. Perhaps a Guardians of the Galaxy-style approach rather than chasing the live service dragon would have better served Earth's mightiest heroes.

The creators of Marvel's Avengers aren't the only ones who can learn a thing or two from Guardians of the Galaxy about superhero team-up games. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gotham Knights came and went without much fanfare whatsoever. While not as big a flop as Avengers was, since it didn't have nearly as far to fall, unlike Guardians of the Galaxy, it's not going to get a feature from me a year and a half after it launched detailing why we should have appreciated it more in the moment. You might argue that it fell short because it didn't have a flagship DC hero in its ranks, but hey, Guardians was headed up by Star-Lord, no Iron Man or Thor in sight, and it's still a game that did the superhero group thing better than anything else mentioned in this article.

The final example of a studio that can learn from Guardians of the Galaxy is the last one I expected to be focusing on when it comes to the pitfalls of making a decent superhero game. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rocksteady gave us the Arkham trilogy, arguably the blueprint from which 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Insomniac and yes, even Eidos Montreal has worked from in some ways. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Suicide Squad: Kil🍨l The Justice League, the winner of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:m𒅌y most-anticipated ga﷽me two years in a row (it won't be getting a third award 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:despite its delay), is an example of the last studio you expected to chase after video game trends, desperately reaching for what appears to be just about all of them and falling short. Its follow-up to some of the greatest superhero games ever made could have been the perfect blend of the Arkham trilogy and Guardians of the Galaxy but alas, at this point, I'm not even sure what Kill The Justice League is supposed to be anymore.

With Avengers shutting down, Gotham Knights passing most people by, and Suicide Squad potentially being delayed so many times that it outlives us all, there has never been a better time to reflect and realize more superhero team-up games need to be like Guardians of the Galaxy. Especially now the group's MCU arc has come to an end. Yes, it's cool to fly around as Iron Man, or dress Harley Quinn in a comic-accurate outfit you unlocked by killing 5,000 Batman-infused enemies (did we ever figure out what the hell that is all about?). However, studios need to remember superhero stories have become so popular across all forms of media because they're exactly that, stories. Give Marvel and DC fans a story to play through in a well-built game and odds are they're going to love it. Incidentally, that might be something Disney needs to be reminded of too right about now. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will likely show telling a great story is more important than making sure your endless upcoming projects are all intricately connected. That's a discussion for another day, though.
