To prepare the players for new, exciting content, Guild Wars 2 releases a new, exciting elite Specialization for every class when they release a new expansion! The Mechanist Specialization for engineers allows them to wield maces and summon a giant jade mech to aid them in combat. RELATED: Guild Wars꧙ 2: End Of Dragons - Who Is Th🐎e New Dragon?The build we detail here is for the open-world (where many of us spend most of our time in Guild Wars 2) so that you'll be fully equipped to handle whatever is thrown at you. After all, you're exploring a brand-new continent: Cantha!Note: The build detailed in this guide is based on the meta of Guild Wars 2 at the time the guide was written.

Build Overview

guild wars 2 end of dragons - mechanist card

This Mechanist build is pretty easy and reliable, making it ꧙excellent for o൩pen-world play because you may come across players who don't know what they're doing (or you may be one yourself) and the situations you're in can vary wildly.

This build focuses primarily on explosions and bleeding. The rifle weapon and your mech can deal out significant bleeding, while the bomb kit and your mech create fantastic explosions. Goin𒁏g between your rifle and bomb kit will keep you going bet🗹ween short-range and mid-range, but you can also use a mace and shield to stay short-range, if that's your preference.

Specializations

guild wars 2 - engineer specializations for mechanist open world build

The Specializations we recommend are focused on explosions and bleeding, as we mentioned, as well as critical hits.

Specialization

First Tier

Second Tier

Third Tier

Explosives

  • Short Fuse
  • Explosive Temper
  • Big Boomer

Alternatives:

  • Shrapnel (increases bleeding inflicted, but not as defensive)

Firearms

  • High Caliber
  • No Scope
  • Modified Ammunition

Alternatives:

  • Sanguine Array (works well when applying a lot of bleeding with rifle)

Mechanist

  • Mech Arms: Single-Edge Cutters

  • Mech Core: Jade Dynamo

Alternatives:

  • Mech Core: Barrier Burst (if you're often close-range with your mech and want more defense)

Weapons And Armour

This section will d🅠etail the equipment you sh🗹ould (ideally) use with this build.

For weapons, equip...

  • First Set: Rifle
  • Second Set: Mace/Shield

Engineers can't switch bet꧟ween weapon sets during combat, so you'll moꦑstly wind up using your Rifle.

Next, we'll cover the stats, runes, and sigils your gear should have.

Armour Stats

Runes

Weapon Stats

Sigils

All your armour and accessories should have 'Berserker' stats:

  • ++Power
  • +Precision
  • +Ferocity

Use Runes of the Scholar in the armour pieces for the most DPS.

  • (1): +25 Power
  • (2): +35 Ferocity
  • (3): +50 Power
  • (4): +65 Ferocity
  • (5): +100 Power
  • (6): +125 Ferocity; increase strike damage by 5% while your health is above 90%.

All your weapons should have 'Berserker' stats:

  • ++Power
  • +Precision
  • +Ferocity

Equip Sigils of Force and Sigils of Accuracy on all of your weapons.

  • of Force: +5% Damage
  • of Accuracy: +7% Critical Chance

Alternatives

If you want better defense, use.... ... Marauder armour

  • ++Power
  • ++Precision
  • +Vitality
  • +Ferocity

... and Knight's accessories

  • ++Toughness
  • +Power
  • +Precision

The Runes of Strength and Runes of Infiltration cost much less than Runes of the Scholar while still providing decent DPS. Use Runes of Vampirism for your armour pieces if you want DPS and defensive combined. Will have poorer critical hits due to lower ferocity.

  • (1): +25 Power
  • (2): +35 Vitality
  • (3): +50 Power
  • (4): +65 Vitality
  • (5): +100 Power
  • (6): +10% Maximum Health; restore 10% of your health upon killing a foe

The optimal defensive option is to use all Runes of Durability, at a significant cost to DPS.

  • (1): +25 Toughness
  • (2): +5% Boon Duration
  • (3): +50 Toughness
  • (4): +10% Boon Duration
  • (5): +100 Toughness
  • (6): +10% Maximum Health; grant nearby allies protection and regeneration for 3 seconds, and resistance for 1 second, when struck. (Cooldown: 20 Seconds)

N/A

Using a Sigil of Air with the Sigil of Accuracy is a good DPS option too.

  • of Air: Unleash a lightning strike upon critically hitting a foe. (Cooldown: 3 Seconds)
