The overwhelming majority of the roster now having access to Dash Cancels allows most characters to land a standard attack, cancel it into a Dash, and follow up with a Special Attack in rapid succession. This change will grant characters several new combo routes and෴ add a new layer of strategy and complexity to their playstyle.
5 ꦿ Aerial Changes
Another universal change in Season Two is every character now has significantly less push-back when performing mid-air normals. This will allow you to land several normal strikes in a row when in the air and will also give꧙ you new aerial combo routes, which will be more beneficial for some characters than others.
Having access to better aerial combos, routes, and attacks will bring Strive in line with the previous titles in the series, giving you a whole new way to approach each situation. However, this change will potentially take away some previous aerial combos that relied on the more significant push-back in the last patch, but what you gain ca𝕴n be a worthy trade if you take the time to learn new꧙ pathing and setups.
4 𝄹 Meter 🎀Changes
Guilty Gear Strive is a fast-paced game that rewards its players for taking risks and being aggressive, and the new c🅰hanges to the Tension Gauge reflect that. Before, when using a Roman Cancel, it would completely drain half of your🤪 meter instantly on use, forcing you to build it back up throughout the round.
Now, Roman Cancels will consume almost all of your Tension Gauge and have the rest quickly drain away if you don't land any follow-up attacks. However, if you are canceling your Roman Cancel into another move or are using it to continue a combo, you can build back your Tension Gauge faster than ever. This addition with the new patch and the other universal changes showcases the game's fast-paced focus and encourages you to play aggressively.
3 Counter Hit Changes 💛 𒐪
One of the more significant additions to Season Two is having Light Punches and Kicks trigger Counter Attacks. Before, this was only possible with Slashes and Heavy Slashes, making them more of a reward for reading your opponent's attack and punishing them accordingly. But, with Light Attacks being added to the mix, you have lots more options at your disposal.
Like the standard Counter Hits, ones procced by a Light Attack will be accompanied by a slowdown, allowing you to follow up with another attack that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. While the slowdown isn't as dramatic as the Slash or Heavy Slash Counter Hit, it's still significant enough to read the situation and plan your next move quickly. This is among the most crucial of all the universal changes brought with this patch, as it completely changes the game.
2 Roman Ca🔯ncel Slowdown
Roman Cancels ar🅷e a crucial part of Guilty Gear Strive, allowing you to set up combo routes ෴that otherwise are impossible to do without them or as a means to extend combos into devastating attack strings for lots of damage, wall breaks, or pressure. Season Two looks to m💯ake the Roman Cancel suite even more essential by adding a slowdown effect to it when canceling into a normal or Special Attack when close to your opponent.
This change essentially allows you to cancel out of a Blue Roman Cancel into a normal attack, then follow up with another attack you may never have be🥃en able to do, thanks to the new cooldown effect. Furthermore, this cooldown also working with Special Attacks will undoubtedly lead to new routes and setups, giving every character lots 💃of potential and many new ways to burn their meter.

In addition to the monumental universal system changes highlighted above, every single character on the roster received some changes, some being quite significant and others minor adjustments. For example, May's sweep is no longer a hard-knockdown, but she can now control the distance her dolphins travel depending on how long the input is held when casting the abilities. This is just one example of a significant change, and almost every character has some sort of substantial tweak that can make or break them.
Some characters may have gotten some of their attacks nerfed or removed but will benefit more from the universal system changes than others. In contrast, some may have received buffs to their kit but won't see a considerable improvement from the other global changes.
