The very first Gundam anime premiered in 1979 and with it a mecha empire was built. This includes videos games, the first of which was Kidou Senshi Gundam Part 1: Gundam Daishi ni Tatsu. It𓆏 relea♏sed in Japan for PCs like the FM-7 in 1983.

It should come as no surprise that Japan, over the years, has received way more Gundam games than anywhere else in the world. It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly was the first one to hit North America, but Gundam Battle Assault for the PS1 in 2000 was among the first for consoles if not the first. So, let’s see what the best Gundam games never reached the shores outside of Japan.

10 Mobile Suit Gundam AGE

Like Pokémon, this 2012 PSP game actually has two versions: Cosmic Drive and Universe Accel. Both are mostly the same albeit through different story perspectives. Why one should care about either of these games is the fact that Level-5 worked on them. It actually plays similar to a game they did release in the West, Little Battlers Experience on 3DS, which was an action RPG. There is a fan translation although it💜 isn’t done yet.

9 Gundam Assault Survive

This is another PSP game, but from two years earlier in 2010. It is essentially a third-person shooter that plays similarly to Monster Hunter. There is kind of a story, but the game is all about getting to play and customize various Gundams 🌃throughout the series in short, quick bursts of action.

It also has a fan patch for English, but it isn’t complete. Another game similar to this, Another Century's Episode Portable, is also worth checking out since it includes other mech series like Eureka Seven and Code Geass.

8 Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Duel

This was a late release for the Super Famicom in Japan in 1996. It is a fighting game based on Gundam Wing. While it never released in the West it does have a full translation patch. It also has a connection with a game that did release over here in that it uses the same engine as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition, also for the Super Nintendo.

7 The Great Battle V

This is a long running series that crosses over Gundam, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman. The first game on the Super Famicom was a brawler as well as the third game, but with Gundam versions of medieval knights. The fourth game was more of a 2D shooter as well as the fifth, which was a Western. That one in particular was released in 1995 for the Super Famicom in Japan and ou🉐t if them all, is this list’s pick. All four are worth checking out and yes, they all have fan translations.

6 SD Gundam: Power Formation Puzzle

And now for something completely different. SD Gundam: Power Formation Puzzle, as the name might suggest, is a puzzle game. It was released for the Super Famicom in 1996 for Japan. Choos✃e a side, match tiles up, screw with the opponent by being faster and repeat. It is a simple Tetris like clone and will appeal to both fans of that and Gundam.

5 SD Gundam Generation G Overworld

SD Gundam Generation G series is similar to a longer running series, Super Robot Taisen. Both franchises are tactical RPGs that cross over properties in Japan. This one is all about Gundam though from the first series all the way up to Gundam 00. It was released in 2012 for ဣthe PSP and while 🏅not done completely, most of the game has been patched into English.

4 SD Gundam Gashapon Wars

This is another tactical RPG of sorts although it plays differently than most. Instead of going from tile to tile and having moves play out automatically, once a target is selected the gam💎e will go into a 3D arena for action combat.

It still looks good as a GameCube game𝓰 from 2005 thanks to the cel-shaded aesthetic. As of right now there are no patches for it though.

3 SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam Monogatari: Ooinar🤡u Isan

That is quite the name, but all one has to know is that this is a series of RPGs in a similar vein to Dragon Quest. Players control sentient Gundams in a fantastical medieval world and fight typical RPG creatures along with following other tropes of the genre. Since this is a RPG, it is text heavy and there are no fan patches as of right now. This was released for the Super Famicom in 1991 for Japan.

2 Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn

This game actually was released in the West. However, some may have missed it for two reasons. One, it was released in 2013, a year in which everyone was ready to start gaming on the PS4 and Xbox One. Two, it was a digital release only. It’s also kind of like a greatest hits from the first three Dynasty Warriors Gundam games. Also of note, the PS Vita version never left Japan.

1 MS Saga: A New Dawn

This is another Western release that some may have missed due to its date. MS Saga: A New Dawn launched in 2006 for the PS2. Because of this, and because it was licensed based, not many copies were produced. This turn-based RPG plays like Front Mission combined with Xenosaga. As a final note, the main character’s name is Tristan in 🥃the English version, which is a rather cool name.
