Look out Hearthstone, Gwent is finally upgraded and ready to 𒉰be the next great digital card game. Or at least it will be on October 23rd (and on December 4th for consoles!). The biggest change is a huge visual transformation that adds a 3D leader character to the table and even fully animates the cards themselves. It looks amazing, achieving a level of liveliness that will be hard to compete with.
While Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has technically been playable on PC for a while, it's only been in the form of a beta. Every game has to come out of beta eventually (unless you're in the battle royale genre apparently) so Gwent is going all-out for its next update. Called Homecoming, the update shakes up the gameplay a🅘nd adds a massive visual overhaul. CD Projekt Red made a video previe🍌wing the new graphics.
The first thing you're like to notice is that Homecoming is moving the game away from the table aesthetic to bring the battle to more detailed environments. Along with that comes a change to the hero characters that 🐻has them standing on the table as full three-dimensional models. They'll even react as the game unfolds, such as following your mouse with their gaze.
There will also be gameplay changes in Homecoming. The most important is that the board is being compacted so that each player only has twoไ lanes to play cards in. The art on the cards is being animated as well, and their effects when played add all the shocks and magical blasts that a fantasy world shouꦯld have.
Homecoming isn't the only update either. A separate, single-player adventure called Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will launch alongside it. Some cards inspired by the single-player will be added to Gwent's multiplayer. But since it's a different game, Thronebreaker will run for its own, unannounced price.
Both the Homecoming update and Thronebreaker will come to PC on October 23rd, and PS4/Xbox One on De🎐cember 4th.
