Supergiant’s hotly-anticipated sequel suggests that our favour🥃ite demigod may become our worst nightmare
Last month's technical test did give us a few clues about where Zagreus is in Hades 2 and imply that he's been captured alongside Hades and Persephone, but they didn't give us the full story. Now that Hades 2 is out in Early Access, we finally have a bit more information about why he's missing in action in Hades 2.
Spoilers for Hades 2's end-game in Early Access below.
Here's What Happened To Zagreus Before Hades 2
As you make your way through Hades 2, you'll eventually reunite with the titular God of the Dead himself, which leads to a heartwarming scene between him and Melinoe. After that point, if you fall in battle (which you're likely too considering how tough of an opponent Chronos is), then you've got a chance of triggering a flashback where you briefly play as Hades.
In this scene, we get to see what happened when Chronos took over the Underworld. As you explore the house, you'll see that several people are frozen in time inside some strange cube shapes, including Nyx, Dusa, and the rest of the house's inhabitants. Make your way over to the House of Hades' central area and you'll finally see the boy we've all been asking about - Zagreus.
Although Zagreus is shown to be taller and has a different outfit than in the painting of him with his family that Melinoe owns, he has the same character model here as he did in Hades. It'll likely be changed when we eventually run into him for real.
Right at the front of the crowd that's been frozen in time is a character who is clearly meant to be Zagreus, even though you can't interact with him and Hades doesn't directly react to his son being trapped. The conversation reveals that Chronos has "set them aside" and trapped them in a moment they can't escape from, which at least confirms that none of them have died.
