Contemptuo💦us Megaera is the first boss in Hades that players encounter when trying to leave Tartarus. She represents the first r𝔍eal challenge for many players, and she'll force you to upgrade your skills. If you've been blindly button-mashing, Megaera will deftly call you on it and send Zagreus right back home to papa Hades.
Although she's tough on the first pass, Megaera has only four moves, each of which she telegraphs very clearly through Supergiant's excellent animations: a dash attack, a whip spin, a spiral spark attack, and a firebomb attack.
In addition to her four main attacks, Meg will periodically summon two kinds of wretchesౠ to her a🅘id:
- Thugs: They move slowly enough that you can basically ignore them and still keep out of the way of their damage. If they cross Zag's path, just dash-strike through them, and keep attacking Meg.
- Witches: These you may want to take out when they appear. The more they spawn, the more likely it is that Zagreus will get hit by an errant purple sphere. They are weak, so spend a couple of seconds taking them out when Meg summons them.
This guide will show you what to do against each of Megaera's four attacks, with each weapon. It makes no assumptions on what boons, upgrades, or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:keepsakes you might be equipping; it should be possible to defeat Meg within the first couple of times aft❀er meeting her if you know her attack patterns. But she's a tricky boss, and every upgrade helps in its own way𒅌. Happy fury fighting!
Dash Attack
This ꧟is Megaera's basic first attack. S𓆉he crouches down, then dashes towards Zagreus in a straight line, dealing 13 damage if she hits.
This is a relatively easy attack to avoid. As soon as Meg crouches down, she's locked into her trajectory. Just have Zagreus🏅 step or dash t🏅o the side, and let her lunge into nothing.
- Stygius: Once you've avoided her attack, dash after her and hack away to do some good damage in the few seconds that she uses to reorient herself.
- Coronacht: Use Coronacht's range to your advantage and dash far away from her as soon as she's crouched down. Her dash has a distance limit, so if you're far enough away, you can use her lunge time to line up a power shot and nail her a couple of times in the seconds after the attack.
- Aegis: Zag's powerful shield can protect against this attack. Block her attack, then hit her back with a bull rush.
- Varatha: Zag's spear has enough range that you can get in one hit while Meg is crouching and still have enough time to dash away. Or you can step to the side, and use her attack time to power up Zag's spin attack.
- Malphon: Dodge Megaera's attack, then use Malphon's overpowered special uppercut attack once to do a decent amount of damage for very little work.
- Exagryph: Make sure you reload as you're escaping Meg's dash, then unleash as many bullets as you can towards her in the seconds after her attack.
Whip Spin Attack
This attack has 360-degree coverage close to Megaera. As soon as you see Meg's hand raised, she's getting ready to pull out her whip for this attack. She uses her whip to 🔥make a few instantaneous aerial circles that 🎐will do 15 damage if they catch Zag.
- Stygius: Give the lady some space. Dash out of range and use the time to either take out one of her summons or to just stay alive.
- Coronacht: Ranged weapons do well against this attack. Dash out of range of Meg's whip, then either spam some quick attacks or use her whipping time to line up a power shot.
- Aegis: Zag's shield can protect against this attack, but Meg's whip will knock him far away. Keep your distance instead during this attack, and use the time to line up a powerful bull rush directly after Meg's done.
- Varatha: Get out of range of Meg's whip, then use your special for a ranged attack.
- Malphon: Melee weapons are useless during this attack, but there's just enough time once Meg's done to sneak in a quick special uppercut attack before she's ready to attack again.
- Exagryph: Dash out of range, remembering to reload if necessary at the same time. Fire at will while she's whip-spinning.
Spiral Spark Attack
After you've done some damage to her, Meg will pull out thi♓s attack. She will use her wing to send a multitude of small pink sparks at Zagreus in a spiral pattern. These sparks can be deflected or destroyed, but i♛f you get hit, they'll each do 4 damage.
This attack is nearly impossible to avoid while near Meg, but since the sparks diffuse as they travel over distance, it's much easier to avoid getting hit when far away from her.
- Stygius: As soon as she starts spinning, retreat far enough away from her that there's room for Zagreus to stand between the rows of pink sparks. You can attack any stray pink sparks that come close to Zagreus, or use this time to attack a summon that is far from Meg, but otherwise this one just requires a little patience to ride it out.
- Coronacht: Ranged weapons have the advantage here. Retreat far enough away from Meg so it's easy to avoid her sparks, then fire as many power shots at her as you can until she's done.
- Aegis: This attack is nothing against Zag's shield. Simply hold defend until Meg's done spinning, and use your powered-up bull rush. You can also stand at a distance between the sparks and use your special for a ranged attack, but this does less damage and you risk getting Zagreus hit.
- Varatha: Once again Varatha's versatility allows you to get in damage no matter what. Get far enough away from Meg that it's easy to dodge her sparks, then use your special for a ranged attack.
- Malphon: Malphon has no ranged attacks, and standing close enough to hit Meg will result in Zagreus taking some serious damage. Get far enough away to avoid the sparks and knock off some of her summons instead.
- Exagryph: Position Zagreus far away from Meg between her pink sparks, and make use of both of the adamant rail's range attacks. Use Exagryph's special bombard to launch an attack on the stationary Megaera, then switch to regular fire.
Firebomb Attack
Megaera's final attack involves dropping a cluster of firebombs over a relatively large area aimed 𝓡at where Zagreus is positioned. She telegraphs this with a few pink circles that will app🌃ear on the ground just prior to the attack and show the upcoming area of effect.
This attack does 9 damage, but since Megaera repeats it multiple times in a row, that damage can start to add up. The safest strategy is to keep continually moving and not worry about attacking Meg at all. But dodging alone has never won 𒅌anyone any battles.
- Stygius: This attack is where you can do the most damage with a melee weapon since Meg will stay in one place and doesn't retaliate. Stand a little ways away from her to draw her bombs, and when the bomb circles appear, dash away to avoid them, then attack Meg and repeat the process. Dash-strikes are excellent for this purpose since they help you escape the bombs and attack Meg simultaneously.
- Coronacht: Time is too tight to line up a good shot, although you might get lucky with a special volley. With this attack, it's better to play it safe and focus on avoiding her firebombs.
- Aegis: Sadly, Zagreus' shield can't protect against the firebombs. Use your bull rush to escape them instead, ideally right through Meg.
- Varatha: Varatha works best as a melee weapon here. Draw Meg's aim away, then dash-strike through her while the firebombs go off. Repeat this process until she's done with this attack.
- Malphon: The uppercut attack is too slow to use without making Zagreus vulnerable to these firebombs, and the quick jabs do very little damage for the risk it takes to use them. Focus on avoiding this attack until Meg's done firebombing.
- Exagryph: Zagreus hardly has time to fire a single bullet in between Meg's firebombs, so fire off a quick special bombard in between dodging her bombs.
